Breath of the Wild and CEMU: fix of some known problems

Here are some fixes to the most frequent problems encountered by users in using the CEMU emulator to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on PC

In the comment box for my guide on how to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of the Wild on PC, I have read several requests for help regarding various problems that emerged while running theCEMU emulator.

I have therefore decided, in this article, to list the various problems that have been reported to me and the related ones proposed solutions, so you don't have to go looking for them among the numerous comments.

PS: Thank you again for the appreciative driving!

Please note: the emulator is perfectly legal and its download is completely free. However, to run the ROM on the emulator you need to have a copy of the original game. Downloading the ROM of the game not purchased is illegal.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild crashes after the startup "light", what can I do?

The solution is to make sure you perform the latest version of the emulator and game ROM.

You will find the link to the emulator package, always updated to the latest version, in the CEMU user guide. To update the ROM of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild just follow this other guide.

When I play the FPS are very low, how can I fix it?

First check if you have activated all graphic packs present in the package provided. In the last updated link I have included a graphic pack that helps boost FPS a lot.

Secondly see if you have activated the GPUFence option as indicated in the main guide.

If that still doesn't solve the problem, you probably have too weak hardware. Remember that the emulator relies heavily on the CPU for now, so you need to have a CPU that can handle the amount of work.

I don't hear the voices of the characters during the cut-scenes, how can I solve?

Make sure you have the game and emulator updated to the latest version.

If this solution doesn't work, a user solved it like this: he was using Razer's surrond software and by turning it off, and using a simple stereo peripheral, he solved the problem.

It seems that the emulator does not work if you use headphones with third party or application programs that in some way affect the audio output.

I see annoying "circles of light" when I am near a light source

This is a problem that occurs on the AMD video cards. The emulator uses OpenGL to work and, from what is learned around the net, the AMD drivers are poorly optimized for the OpenGL libraries.

The grass casts strange shadows!

Problem that I thought I had solved in an article written recently, but I realized that the proposed solution created very serious disturbances to the textures of some game areas.

So I started looking again and I found a new graphic pack which seems to solve the problem without creating further headaches. You can download it by clicking here. This fix is only valid on AMD cards as this problem does not exist on Nvidia cards.

During the clashes with the enemies the game "freezes"!

This is a problem reported by a user with an Nvidia video card. Having tested the emulator on an AMD card I cannot ascertain the solution, but I bring you back to the video that was helpful to the user in question.

Problems with file.DLL?

If by chance you get an error message regarding the msvcp140.dll, connect to this page and follow the instructions to resolve the error.

The game does not create the saves for me, what can I do?

Evidently there is some bug that prevents CEMU from creating the save folder. The solution is therefore that of create saves manually. Here's how to proceed:

  • start the game with CEMU. At the top, next to the current FPS, there should be an entry "SaveDir: xxxxx"; write down the letters and numbers that are in place of the xs;
  • download these saves by clicking here;
  • go to the CEMU directory; open the “mlc01” folder and enter the “EmulatorSave” folder. Delete all the folders you find inside and copy the folder you downloaded;
  • rename the folder with the name (letters and numbers) you marked in the first step;
  • at this point, opening the game, just click on New Game. The game will now save your progress.
