EA Sports FC 24 will arrive in stores around the world in just over a week, bringing with it big news, starting with the name. It is in all respects the heir to FIFA 23, but from this chapter onwards the Electronic Arts series will no longer use the FIFA license and will adopt the name "EA Sports FC". What changes essentially? Aside from the name and logo, players can expect the classic virtual football experience from EA Sports, clearly with all the content and gameplay innovations that can be expected from a new iteration of the series, which this year in particular are quite interesting.
In this article we have summarized all useful information in view of the debut of EA Sports FC 24, from the release date to the various editions available, from the main innovations in terms of gameplay to the list of all the teams and championships confirmed for the moment and which we will update over time.
Is EA Sports FC 24 the sequel to FIFA 23? Why did the name change?
Let's start with the question of change of name, a novelty that could confuse players who don't often hang out on specialized sites and who therefore this year could understandably be surprised by not finding "FIFA 24" on the shelves of their local store or in online stores.
EA Sports FC 24 is in all respects the heir to FIFA 23 is a continuation of the EA Sports franchise, so, name and logo aside, you can expect all the features that define the series, including historic modes like Ultimate Team (henceforth FC Ultimate Team), as well as the ever-growing number of official licenses, which this year include over 19.000 players, more than 700 teams and 30 leagues.
The reason why from now on the series will take the name EA Sports FC is that after a long and fruitful collaboration, Electronic Arts and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association have decided to conclude the agreement for the official FIFA license.
Having resolved this doubt, we would like to point out that in the not too distant future you will probably find both "EA Sports FC" and "FIFA" in stores, but in the second case we are talking about a virtual football experience that will be created by a completely different studio unrelated to Electronic Arts. This is because the Fédération Internationale de Football Association has already started negotiations some time ago to give life to a new football series in 2024 entrusting the official FIFA license to another publisher, yet to be revealed. The most plausible candidate is 2K, which boasts great experience in the field of sports video games thanks to successful series such as NBA 2K.
EA Sports FC 24: release date and differences between versions
EA Sports FC 24 will be available in stores starting from 29 September 2023, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. This latest version will only be purchasable digitally on Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App, as well as included in the EA Play Pro Edition subscription (priced at 14,99 euros per month) in the Ultimate Edition.
However, there are various ways to start playing a week earlier, i.e. from 22 September. L'early access is guaranteed with the purchase of the Ultimate Edition for PlayStation, Xbox and PC consoles, via the EA Play Pro subscription (PC only). EA Play subscribers (service also included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass) can play the full version for 10 hours starting from the same date.
Keep in mind that only the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions support HypermotionV, the technology that will offer even more realistic animations than in the past thanks to the volumetric data recorded by analyzing numerous official matches of the major international championships and competitions.
There is then a separate discussion to be had regarding the Nintendo Switch version, which for the first time in many years will not be a "Legacy Edition" that is too limited in terms of gameplay and modes compared to the others. This means that even on Switch EA Sports FC 24 will run with the help of the powerful Frostbite graphics engine like the other versions and all the modes present in the PS4 and Xbox One ones will be included, including Ultimate Team. The negative differences are the lack of cross-play with other platforms, the 30 fps limit and the absence of the aforementioned HyperMotion V technology.

On the contrary, the physical Standard Edition for PS5 does not include the old-gen version.
The situation above Xbox it's definitely simpler. In fact, there is a single physical Standard Edition that includes both the Xbox Series
Cross-play e Cross-progression
In EA Sports FC 24 il cross-play, i.e. the ability to play with users who use different consoles, will be available for platforms of the same generation. Therefore the PS5, Xbox Series X | S, PC versions will be compatible with each other. The same goes for the versions of FIFA 23 for PS4 and Xbox One. However, cross-play between platforms of different generations is not supported, so PS5, Xbox Series Nintendo Switch, however, does not support cross-play in any way.
Cross-play will be supported for the following modes:
- Club
- Co-op season
- Volta Football (Arcade, Rose)
- Co-op Ultimate Team (Squad Battles, Rivals, Amichevoli)

- Online Friendlies
- Online Seasons
For the moment, no precise details have been shared on the cross progression, or the ability to transfer your progress and purchased content from one platform to another.
If things work as in FIFA 23, then everything related to Ultimate Team and Volta Football can be transferred between platforms of the same family, therefore from PS4 to PS5 and from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S and vice versa. Progress in all other modes, including Online Seasons, Co-op Seasons, Career Mode, Pro Clubs, etc., however, is linked to the platform you are playing on and will therefore not be transferable.

What's new in EA Sports FC 24
Like every new chapter in the Electronic Arts football series, EA Sports FC 24 also brings with it a wealth of new features. As we explained in our special, one of the most interesting is without a doubt HyperMotion V, the third evolution of the technology that debuted in FIFA 22 to make the animations of the players on the pitch even more realistic. In this case the "V" stands for "volumetric", as compared to the past this technique allows developers to obtain volumetric data using recordings from over 180 high-level professional matches, including those of the men's and women's UEFA Champions League.
We will also find various improvements to the graphics, thanks to technology EA Sports Sapien used in tandem with the powerful Frostbite graphics engine, which according to the words of the development team will reproduce players and movements with a level of detail never seen before in the series.
The behaviors of athletes on the pitch now promise to be even more realistic, thanks to the collaboration between EA Sports and Opta, a company specialized in sports data processing. This made it possible to create i PlayStyle, real playing styles that will faithfully represent the characteristics of each footballer. Furthermore, the most famous world football stars will have PlayStyle+, which is a style of play tailor-made based on their actual performances on the pitch.
In addition to new technologies, with EA Sports FC 24 the developers intend to bring important innovations also to the most popular mode, Ultimate Team. From this year, in fact, FUT will welcome women's football, integrating six official competitions. There will be no distinction between men and women, with players therefore being able to create mixed teams.
Also within the Ultimate Team, this year the mechanics of the Evolutions, linked to the cards of very young footballers. By obtaining one and keeping it in the club, players will be able to increase their attribute values throughout the year by completing specific challenges and applying specific PlayStyles to specialize them in certain tasks on the field.
Clearly we will only find out how much HyperMotionV and the other innovations will have an impact in EA Sports FC 24 during the review, but in the meantime you can read the editorial staff's first impressions in our test and an overview of all the modes available at launch.
