How to find and edit zoom recordings on Mac and PC

Zoom is undoubtedly one of the most popular video communication tools in recent times. You can also record meetings and sessions, and this feature makes it easy to check meeting details later. And unlike Skype, the recordings here don't disappear after 30 days. While Zoom also allows you to save meeting and session recordings to the cloud, this option is only available for Business and Education accounts.

If you don't have either of them, these recordings will be stored on your Mac and on your PC's local drive. Well, let's find out how to view and edit Zoom recordings on Mac and PC.

The good thing about Zoom is that the app interface is almost similar for both Mac and Windows PC.

1 pass: Open Settings by tapping the gear icon in the top right corner.

Click Registration and you will see the location for local registration.

Click Open and the Zoom folder on your PC or Mac will open immediately.

Step 2: the folder name has the date as a prefix, followed by the host name and meeting ID. Double click on the icon and you will see the audio and video files.

By default, recordings are automatically stored in the Documents folder.

  • Windows - C: Users Username Documents Zoom
  • macOS - / Users / Username / Documents / Zoom

You can change that position. To do this, click Edit or the drop-down menu and select a folder from the list.

However, if you want to save recordings in project related folders every time you record a meeting, the best option is to enable the “Choose a location for…” option.

This allows you to choose a different location each time you need to save a file, thus saving you time in the long run.

How to Edit Zoom Recordings on Windows 10 PC

Since we're talking about local recordings here, editing them is child's play. You don't need to go through the hassle of uploading these recordings to random third-party servers. Instead, they can be edited in the safe confines of your PC.

Whether you're looking to do something as simple as trimming the start and ending point or splitting clips in two, Microsoft's Photo Video Editor lets you do it all.

  • Download Microsoft Photos

Editing with it is easy. What makes the deal even sweeter is the inclusion of features like speed, text, filters, etc.

To edit a zoom recording, follow the steps below.

1 pass: Click the Add icon at the top and select the recording you want to edit. Alternatively, you can also directly drag and drop videos. Once done, select the video and click the three-dot button at the top.

Select the Place in Storyboard option from the menu.

2 pass: Once done, select the option of your choice. In my case, I chose to go ahead with Trim.

Click Cut and drag the Start and End markers according to your preferences. At this point, you can also add text, motion, or some quirky filters.

Just click on the related icons at the top and you will see the options on the side of the screen.

For example, if you want to add a particular snippet of text to display on a certain part of the video, add the text and drag the markers to the desired place.

After editing the entire video, click Done.

Suggestion: you can even add a title card to the video to make it more refined. This feature is useful if you are looking to share this video.

Step 3: if you are happy with the overall look of the video, click the Stop Video button in the bottom right corner, give it a name and that's it.

And yes, you can also choose the quality of the final video. For now, Microsoft Video Editor lets you choose between High (1080p), Medium (720p) and Low (540p).

It is worth noting that the original video will not be altered.

Besides Microsoft's Video Editor, there are other apps like Shotcut and Blender, which you can check out.

Likewise, on the Mac, you wouldn't need a professional-grade video editor for the job. Instead, simple apps like iMovie will do the job just fine. Unlike the Windows tool, iMovie has a simple and refined interface.

  • Download iMovie

Step 1: one iMovie launches, tap the Plus icon at the top to create a new project.

Step 2: to access the Zoom recordings, you need to import them manually. Additionally, you will also need to provide permissions to the folder.

To do this, go to the folder where the recordings are saved.

3 pass: After importing the video, you will see all the options like Transition, Background and Audio in the top menu.

To trim a movie, drag the handles and crop the part you don't need.

Likewise, to add titles and text, click on the option above and choose a style of your choice. Once done, place it in the timeline and edit it as needed.

The good thing about iMovie is that you don't need to manually save the movie / video recording. To render the file, click the Export button at the top and choose the required option.

Suggestion: Use the spacebar to play and pause the video while editing.
