On November 17th, Telltale Games offered to the public, with ups and downs, the season finale of Game of Thrones, bringing to an end their second major production of the year (following Tales from the Borderlands), the software house specializing in graphic adventures remained at the Only one series is active for this 2015, the one dedicated to the universe of Mojang builders.
On November 24, the third episode of Minecraft: Story Mode, Entitled The Last Place You Look, after a very subdued chapter, will the boys of Telltale be able to bring the adventure of Jesse and his companions back to the rails?
Tested Version: PlayStation 4
It is impossible to be able to talk about The Last Place You Look without mentioning the choices of the first two chapters, so proceed at your own risk if you have not yet played The Order of the Stone and Assembly Required. There will be no big plot spoilers for this episode.Previously on Minecraft: Story Mode
We had left Jesse and his crew in search of Soren the architect, the fourth member of the Order of the Stone. For most of the duration of The Last Place You Look, the mission of the group will be to go deeper and deeper into the hiding place of the lost soldier, between traps and Ender Man, the plot of this third episode is yes more linear than the predecessor but at the same time it is more convincing. Although there is no "impact" crossroads as in Assembly Required, Telltale manages to bring to light the characters and the relationships between them, all aspects absent in the second chapter.
Unfortunately, it all lasts a little over an hour, leading Jesse to the choice that will test his courage; hoping that everything is not canceled in the next episode, the finale of The Last Place You Look is the worthy closure of the third chapter and the halfway point of Minecraft: Story Mode, leaving behind the stylistic errors of Assembly Required.
PretEnder Man
After the absence from the second episode, The Last Place You Look sees the return of crafting, although only in three situations and all dictated by the flow of events predicted by Telltale: this time you will be immediately given the recipes to follow, and there will be no room for inventiveness (as was the case in the first episode). For the rest, the episode consists of the usual corridors, dialogues and omnipresent Quick Time Events, the latter once again all too easy and impossible to go wrong. And should you get distracted by failing the QTE, the story will continue as if nothing had happened, simply making Jesse look like a fool instead of a hero. As we have repeatedly found ourselves saying over the last few months, after Life is Strange the gameplay of Telltale titles should be modernized, providing more freedom to the player and above all not repeating the same formula every month with different polygonal models.
Talk, sing and grunt
Nothing to report in the technical sector both sound and visual, still solid as in previous episodes and again only in English with subtitles. The only flaw to report is in Soren's recordings, which for an unknown reason have not been subtitled and therefore will require more attention for players.
Verdict 6.5 / 10 Crafting is back! Comment The Last Place You Look manages to get rid of the defects of the second episode, and offers, at least from the point of view of the plot, a chapter almost as pleasant as the first. Unfortunately, the gameplay is still too unsatisfactory to reward the collaboration between Mojang and Telltale, and counting the negligible duration and excessive ease, we don't feel like pushing ourselves too high with judgment. Will Jesse and his companions be able to solve all the problems of Minecraft: Story Mode in two episodes? Pros and cons ✓ Better than the second episode
✓ Convincing storyline x Definitely short
x Unnecessary QTEs
