Losers gotta Lose. It's the rule.
August is a busy month for the boys of Telltale, between the debut of the second season of Batman last August 8, and the third episode of Guardians of the Galaxy arriving next Tuesday could not miss a new appointment with Jesse and the blocks of Minecraft Story Mode. Available from August 15th in stand alone download or via Season Pass on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One, Giant Consequences puts Jesse in front of the most fearsome enemy he has ever faced: the Admin.
Tested Version: PlayStation 4
As has become tradition when it comes to episodic release titles, in this review we will refer to the events of the first chapter: Hero in Residence. We will try to limit the biggest spoilers on the plot of Giant Consequences.
Attack on Titan
Jesse and his friends have returned from the sunken temple winners, while also finding Vos, Jack's adventurer friend who has been missing for years. But peace does not last long in Beaconcity and the Admin, the creator of everything, attacks the city in the form of an immense titan. Jesse never backs down from a challenge, and is ready to take on the Admin in all his possible forms. Giant Consequences starts from the finale of the first episode, and for the hour and a half necessary to complete the episode, it places Jesse in front of new challenges from his opponent, finally revealing an increasingly predictable secret.
As usual, great space for narrative crossroads, even if this time they will lead us to drastically change the travel companions, moreover the episode continues to analyze the relationship between Petra and Jesse, and the life of the latter since he is a hero . Nothing innovative or exceptional, but the effort put into giving a characterization to the protagonists is at least constant. Less concentration of events than the first episode, which is only good for the story in the Mojang universe.
There is still space for Stella and Lluna, the treasure-sniffing lama and the mayor of Champion City, two of the new entries of this second season, and for Radar, Jesse's clumsy assistant who will focus most of the episode. Giant Consequences, however, is the Admin, who will reveal part of his plan and thus give a shock to the plot of the series.
Hey look we added this thing but ...
All the news we talked about last month, from the stamina during the fights to the mini editor, are back in Giant Consequences but, also this time, they are exploited only a couple of times, instead giving ample space to multiple choice dialogues and QTEs. A real shame that there are no more occasions in which to use them, but at least everything does not break the rhythm of this second episode.
Also nice is a test of the Admin, which, however, based only on the QTE, varies the formula abused in the other episodes of the mob horde (although it is not lacking even in this episode on other occasions).
Nothing new on the visual front, although for this time we have not encountered frame drops in any situation. The dubbing, on the other hand, is always excellent, with voices suited to the characters and the nemesis of this season. Giant Consequences finally leaves us with a moderately successful cliff hanger, in the face of a not too surprising revelation that we will probably go to discuss in the next episode.
Verdict 6.5 / 10 The fine line between quotation and plagiarism Comment The second season of Minecraft Story Mode continues with Giant Consequences which drastically decreases the topics covered, but managing to concentrate very well on the characterization of the characters. Too bad for everything else that remains quite bland and above all predictable. The final twist in fact becomes obvious after a few dialogues, leaving little surprised as the credits roll across the screen. Will Telltale be able to give us a balanced episode next time? Pros and cons ✓ Constant character growth
✓ Good dubbing x Predictable twists and turns
x Ideas continue to be exploited too little
