Facebook Dating, the privacy issue blocks the arrival in Europe

The launch of Facebook Dating in Europe has been postponed for privacy and security reasons. The service that allows you to identify people with our same interests, and then make an appointment, was launched last September in the United States. However, Zuckerberg's expansion plans have found the wall of the Irish privacy supervisor, Data Protection Commission (DPC).

The agency raised concerns about the protection of your data leading the Menlo Park company to block the arrival in the Old Continent at a later date. The DPC judged the formal communication sent by Facebook Ireland on February 3 late in view of the launch scheduled for today, February 13. Furthermore, for the agency, the communication would not be accompanied by sufficient information and documentation regarding the exploitation and protection of user information.

For its part, Facebook makes it known that it has shared information on privacy protection with the DPC prior to launch. Anyway, the Zuckerberg giant preferred postpone the launch and take more time to get the product ready for the European market. It is therefore clear how Facebook intends to move with caution after the regulatory problems it has had both in Europe and in the rest of the world.

In any case, it is necessary to understand how personal information is exploited and protected in a service like that of Facebook Dating characterized by a high level of profiling. The service is already active in the United States and 19 other countries including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand and Canada.
