Guides How to unlock the Gambler on Bravely Default II

Lo Gambler is an optional class obtainable on Bravely Default II only by completing secondary mission 024 "The Thrill of the Game". Towards the end of Chapter 1, after escaping from prison, you can explore Savalon again. It is precisely from this moment that you will have the opportunity to undertake this secondary mission at the casino of the capital.

Where to find the mission and how to complete it

Go to the Savalon casino and talk to the character shown in the picture, that is Shirley. You will be introduced to the magical world of B & D, the card minigame featured in Bravely Default II, based on the conquest of territories in a virtual map.

In practice, you will have to occupy land with your monster cards and steal as much field as possible from your opponent. The player with the most land wins the game. If you win, you can spend a special currency to buy cards from the defeated opponent's deck.

Shirley will give you a deck of cards (6 in total) and briefly explain how the minigame works. After you are done, go up the spiral stairs and talk to Orpheus, which you already got to know at the beginning of the chapter.

Once you receive the card, go down and tackle the old lady and the child on the ground floor, which will have a card icon above their head.

The old lady has a pretty poor deck, but the kid is really tough. The advice I give you is to remove the Tamer card immediately, who always plays turn 1.

Also beware of the card Horten which is deadly, it can quickly overturn even the games that will seem to you already scored.

Once both are defeated, talk to Shirley and challenge her to B&D, but remember to save the game first. If you lose to her it will be (strangely) Game Over, so watch out! If you bought Horten or other Beast cards from the child above you shouldn't have a problem.

Just be on your guard because Shirley tends to play quite smart compared to the other 2 opponents you have faced.

The battle against Shirley

After winning the card game, the real one awaits you battle against Shirley and Orpheus. Equip yourself with alarm bells and the usual healing items you need, as they will be very useful during the fight.

If you have leveled up the class a little Tamer use it, as its defensive abilities can be more than useful in this case.

Regardless, your usual team should do it anyway, being a purely luck-based bossfight, as you'll see shortly.

Eliminate the 2 guards first and immediately after Orpheus, avoiding physical attacks whenever possible. Then continue to abuse Elvis as a black magician to spam Criora on the bard, getting him out of the way as soon as possible. Be careful because it will counterattack and put your wizards to sleep, so prepare the bells.

If you want, you could also focus on Shirley immediately, but eliminating the reinforcements right away will allow you to manage the rest of the fight a little better.

Just know that the boss's offensive ability will be based entirely about luck, so on some occasions it may seem pathetic, while on others it will KO your characters without problems.

The Gambler's asterisk

Once you have won, you will get the Gambler's Asterisk. It is not a particularly strong class, but it will be able to count on some useful passive skills which we will talk about in a special guide.
