Marvel's Spider-Man 2 it is without a doubt one of the most anticipated games of 2023 by PS5 players. Moreover, combining Marvel's most beloved hero and the skills of Insomniac Games, one of the most talented teams at PlayStation Studios, was a winning move for Sony, which thanks to Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales has offered its audience entertaining and graphically cutting-edge titles, capable of attracting a huge number of users. In short, it is no surprise that interest in the sequel is skyrocketing.
With Marvel's Spider-Man 2 set to hit stores just a few months away, we decided to make a Buying Guide, with all the details on prices, editions and contents of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and an overview of the most important information plot and gameplay of Peter and Miles' new adventure.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release date and platforms, will it also arrive on PC?
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be available in stores starting from October 20, 2023 exclusively for PS5. The confirmation came during the Summer Game Fest 2023 last June, where creative director Bryan Intihar assured players that Insomniac Games is confident that there will be no delays on the roadmap now that development is practically complete.
For the moment Sony has not shared any details on a possible one PC version of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. It must be said that the first two games of the series have arrived on Steam and Epic Games Store recording excellent sales numbers and therefore it is very likely that the sequel will also land on PC. If anything, the question is not "if", but "when", given that the PC ports of PlayStation Studios games do not have precise timing, which could be a few months or even years. For example, The Last of Us Part 1 was released on PS5 last September and the PC port arrived about 6 months later. On the contrary, over a year has passed since the launch of Horizon Forbidden West on consoles and everything is still silent on a conversion.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2: la trama e i villain
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is set around 9 - 10 months after the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Peter and Miles are at the peak of their eventful careers as superheroes, but on the contrary they have many difficulties with civilian life. Miles is dedicating so much time to chasing criminals that he is neglecting his studies and procrastinating on enrolling in college while still having to process his father's death. Peter, on the other hand, is in financial trouble and is unable to pay the installments on Aunt May's house, which however she refuses to sell. Mary Jane also has her fair share of problems: she would really like to help Peter, but she has to deal with the return of the gruff J. Jonah Jameson to The Daily Bungle, which could put her career as a reporter at risk. .
To make matters worse, Kraven the Hunter has targeted New York, which he wants to make his personal "hunting ground", and among his potential preys there are also the two Spider-Mans. According to the details shared by Insomniac Games, this iconic villain represents the catalyst that sets in motion the events of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and with his arrival in the Big Apple things will take a bad turn for our heroes.
Indeed, Kraven will not be the only threat. As we have seen in the trailers released so far, our heroes will also have to contend with Lizard e Venom. In this regard, it is worth underlining that this latest villain will be a unique and original version, which will differ in several aspects from that of the comics while maintaining some characteristic traits.
The development team has defined as the main theme of the plot of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 "the darkness taking over" and in this sense the symbiote will play an important role even before giving life to Venom. As we have seen in the previous trailers, at a certain point in the adventure Peter Parker will come into contact with this alien parasite and will decide to exploit its powers to fighting crime, becoming much stronger but also extremely violent, to the point that he seems unrecognizable in the eyes of his loved ones, mainly Miles and Mary Jane.
How the relationship between Peter and the symbiote will evolve is still a mystery, but Insomniac has suggested that the boy will be much more involved in the creation of Venom than seen in the comics, which apparently will not be related to Eddie Brok. Seeing the trailer we've already got an idea of the identity behind this nemesis, but we won't say anything else so as not to spoil any surprises for you.
For the moment these are the details shared by the development team, which clearly prefers to leave players the pleasure of discovering how events will evolve. Likewise, it is plausible that they will be there in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 further villains in addition to those already mentioned. For example, in a trailer we glimpsed Mr. Negative, while among Kraven's prey there also seems to be Wraith, the anti-heroine alter ego of the policewoman Yuriko Watanabe, and it will be really interesting to discover their role within the game.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2: gameplay news
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a third-person action adventure in which players will take control of Peter Parker and Miles Morales, the two friendly neighborhood Spider-Mans who watch over the Big Apple. Those who have already played the previous games in the series will immediately find themselves at ease with the gameplay, which includes hand-to-hand combat that takes advantage of the agility, superhuman strength and reflexes of the two wall climbers, stealth phases and exploration based on twirling with vines of a spider's web among the skyscrapers of New York.
However, there will be several new features from the point of view of gameplay dynamics. For example now the game world is much bigger and includes the East River, Brooklyn, Queens and Coney Island. Given the greater extension of the map, Insomniac Games has seen fit to equip our heroes with new options to make movement faster than in the past. In addition to the classic swinging between the buildings, we will now be able to combine these movements with the Web Wings, i.e. spider web wings with which we will be able to glide at great speed, even more so by taking advantage of "aerial runners".
Another important addition is that it will be possible switching from controlling Peter to Miles and vice versa at almost any time, with character changes occurring instantly with the simple press of a button. This applies to free exploration, while during the main missions this functionality will be partially limited for narrative purposes.
In Marvel's Spider-Man the two wall climbers also now boast a greater number of moves and gadgets to put the criminals out of action. Miles, for example, has an expanded range of attacks that use two forms of bio-electricity, while Peter at a certain point in the game will sport a new pitch-black costume that uses the powers of the symbiote to perform violent area attacks that can hit multiple enemies in one fell swoop. Insomniac Games has also retouched the dynamics of the fighting by introducing new mechanics, such as the possibility of blocking certain blows and then carrying out counterattacks.
Although the role-playing aspect plays a secondary role, there will also be news on the progression system. In particular, we will be able to enhance our heroes through three different skill branches, one each for Peter and Miles and a third which includes upgrades shared by both protagonists.
If you want to know more, we refer you to our special with all the details from the recent San Diego Comic-Con and our analysis of the gameplay of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Will Marvel's Spider-Man 2 have two-player co-op?
In Marvel's Spider-Man 2 players will be able to control both Peter Parker and Miles Morales and in some gameplay footage we saw the two wall climbers fighting side by side. For this reason, in recent months some fans have started to speculate about a possible one two-player cooperative mode.
An idea that is certainly interesting but that we won't see in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, like its predecessors it will be an exclusively singleplayer experience. Insomniac Games explained that co-op was never in the development team's plans as it would have required major changes from both a technical and game design point of view for obvious reasons.
