In total in Hogwarts legacy you can learn 34 spells different, with the most disparate effects. There are those useful for exploration and fundamental for solving puzzles, such as Lumos and Wingardium Leviosa, others that allow you to gain an advantage over your opponents, such as Glacius and Transformation and finally those dedicated to inflicting as much damage as possible in a short time such as Confringo and I diffindo. And if you're wondering, yes you can also learn unforgivable curses, including the deadly Avada Kedavra.
Below we will explain how to unlock all spells of Hogwarts Legacy and which are, in our opinion, the strongest ones.
Hogwarts Legacy spells are divided into various categories, which we have listed below:
- Essenziale: these are essential spells, useful on all occasions and for this reason they are linked to specific command keys. They include offensive and utility spells, such as Revelio and Ancient Magic.
- Energetic: Spells based on moving the target. For example, Accio attracts enemies and objects towards the character, while Repulso throws them away. They are marked with a purple icon and are needed to destroy barriers of this color.
- Control: Spells that control the state of opponents in various ways. Levioso, for example, levitates them in mid-air, while Arrestum Momentum slows them down until they are completely immobilized. They are marked with yellow icons and destroy barriers of the same color.
- Danni: Spells designed to inflict as much damage as possible on the target or targets. They are indicated by icons with a red background and break barriers of the same color.
- Tools: Non-offensive spells per se that have various utilities. Alohomora, for example, opens blocked locks, while Wingardium Leviosa allows you to easily move even the heaviest objects.
- Transfiguration: Spells that can only be used in the Room of Requirement, allow you to create, move or remove objects in this magical space. They don't work elsewhere.
- Curses without forgiveness: extremely powerful anathemas and forbidden in the magical world as "unforgivable" due to their terrible effects.
Below we have listed all the spells in Hogwarts Legacy. Most of them you will unlock simply by progressing through the story and completing the main missions. For others, you will need to complete additional assignments commissioned by Hogwarts professors as part of your accelerated study plan. Once you have completed the main mission "Cornacchia's Rest" you will also unlock Talents, basically passive skills to be unlocked using the appropriate points (you will earn one for each level above 5) with which you can also enhance spells.
Basic spell - Damage: this is the basic attack that can be performed with the right trigger of the controller or the left mouse button. By pressing the dedicated button several times you can perform it several times in a row to start a combo.

- Enhancement: Using this spell reduces the cooldown of others. Hitting an enemy in the air refills the Ancient Magic bar.
Revelation - Essential: spell that can be activated with the left arrow on the controller or "R" on the keyboard, which reveals all the points of interest, mission objects, enemies, pages of the player's practical guide in the player's vicinity and so on. In flight its range is greater.

Lumos - Utility: spell that makes the tip of the wand glow, illuminating the surroundings. Useful at night and in dark areas, as well as essential for solving some puzzles proposed by Hogwarts Legacy.

take care - Essential: create a barrier with Triangle / Y / Q that protects from opponent blows (except the unstoppable ones, anticipated by the red indicator). By using it with the right timing and holding down the activation button after execution your character will counterattack with the Stupeficium spell.

- Enhancement: Various, including filling the Ancient Magic bar by successfully using it, sending two projectiles back at the target, and creating a shockwave that damages nearby enemies.
Astonishment - Essential: After using a perfectly timed Protego, hold down this spell's activation button to use a counterattack that stuns an opponent.

- Augment: Various, including increased damage and stun, curse status for targets hit.
levioso - Control: Levitates objects, enemies and animals in mid-air. Useful for solving some puzzles but also in battle, as the targets hit will remain helpless.
- How to unlock: main mission "Defense Against the Dark Arts Lesson", in the early stages of the game.
- Charging time: 8 seconds
- Augment: Also levitates enemies in the immediate vicinity of the hit target.
Accio - Energetic: attracts enemies and objects towards the character. It can be used in battle, but also to solve puzzles and collect collectibles.

- Empowerment: Also attracts enemies in the immediate vicinity of the affected target.
Repair - Utility: Repairs broken or damaged items, useful for some puzzles and collectibles

Casting Ancient Magic - Essential: Throw objects in the scenario at an opponent, such as barrels, stones or even objects thrown at you by enemies and blocked with Protego. Deals massive damage and ignores any barriers.
- How to unlock: Main mission "Arrive at Hogsmeade", a few hours after starting the game.
- Charging time: instant
- Upgrade: Can also throw weapons knocked out of enemies' hands.
Ancient Magic - Essential: use a segment of the bar to cast a powerful spell that inflicts high damage on an opponent, often fatal.
- How to unlock: Main mission "Arrive at Hogsmeade", a few hours after starting the game.
- Recharge time: when the recharge bar fills
- Enhancement: Increases the bar's recharge speed in various ways
expelliarmus - Damage: spell that disarms most enemies, including wands, and deals damage.
- How to unlock: By completing the side quest "Professor Hecat's Assignment 2", which unlocks after the main quest "Tomes and Tribulations"
- Charging time: 10 seconds
- Augment: Curses targets hit
Fire - Damage: a short-range spell that sets opponents and objects within its range on fire.

- Charging time: 8 seconds
- Power Up: A ring of flame spreads from the player's position, damaging those in its path.
I was knocked down - Energetic: Throws enemies and objects in the opposite direction of the player. The spell does no damage, but the target can hit other enemies or be thrown from great heights, with devastating effects.
- How to unlock: By completing the side quest "Professor Sharp's Assignment 1", which is unlocked after completing "Cornacchia's Rest".
- Charging time: 10 seconds
- Power Up: When Depulso is cast, it creates a shockwave around the player that knocks away nearby enemies.
Disillusionment - Utility: makes the character almost invisible from a distance, but enemies will be able to spot you easily if you get too close.

- Power Up: Makes it harder to spot the player up close and allows you to run while using it.
Petrificus totalus - Essential: can only be used while using Disillusionment and approaching an enemy from behind without being seen. Pressing Square / X / F when shown on screen will petrify the target, rendering it helpless. It can be used against human and animal opponents.
- How to unlock: You will unlock it during "Secrets of the Forbidden Ward", although the game introduces you to this spell at a later time.

- Empowerment: Also affects enemies in the immediate vicinity.
evanesco - Transfiguration: makes objects in the Room of Requirement disappear and in exchange the player is refunded the moonstones needed to summon them.

Summoning Spell - Transfiguration: causes an item of your choice to appear in the Room of Requirement, provided you have enough space and moonstones.

Break - Damage: Throw a fireball and set opponents on fire. It is also useful for destroying objects, crumbling walls, lighting braziers and so on, which also makes this spell indispensable for completing some puzzles.

- Enhancement: Upon impact with the target, flames are created that target nearby enemies.
I divide - Damage: Long range attack that causes consistent damage.

Wingardium Leviosa - Utility: allows you to levitate and move objects and animals in mid-air. Indispensable for solving some puzzles.

alohomora - Essential: allows you to open padlocks and locked locks scattered around the game world. Once used you will have to complete a short minigame.
- How to unlock: by completing the main mission "The Keeper of the Crooked Moon".
- Charging time: instant
- Enhancement: the spell has three levels, each of which is necessary to unlock locks of the same value. To obtain level 2 and 3 it is necessary to collect the Demiguise Statuettes scattered throughout Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and the Highlands.
Glacius - Control: Freezes a target and increases the damage of the next spell.

flipping - Energetic: Causes enemies to levitate in mid-air and flip over. It is the spell with the fastest cooldown for making targets fly and is also useful for completing some puzzles.

- Charging time: 5 seconds
- Augment: Curses targets
bombard - Damage: an explosion that causes massive damage to the target and those around it

- Augment: Increases area damage
Momentum shutdown - Control: Slows down enemies and objects, sends enemies flying

Transformation - Control: Transforms objects and enemies into harmless alternate forms

I torture - Curse: Deals damage over time and curses targets
- How to unlock: See Avada Kedavra

- Augment: Hitting an enemy affected by Crucio curses nearby targets.
Empire - Curse: Charms the target and convinces them to temporarily become an ally of the player. Furthermore, he curses him.

Avada kedavra - Curse: Kills enemies instantly

What are the strongest spells?
At this point you may be wondering what they are the strongest spells of Hogwarts Legacy. The answer is not very simple, as there are various factors to consider, not least personal tastes. For example, are you willing to give in to the dark side and use curses without forgiveness?
Among the aspects to evaluate there are undoubtedly: damage and recharge time of a spell. Usually the spells that inflict the most damage are also those with a longer recovery time and therefore you can use them less often. On the other hand, secondary effects are also important, given that some spells inflict relatively little damage but offer considerable tactical advantages if used with ingenuity, such as Depulso, useful for sending groups of enemies into disarray or eliminating them in an instant by throwing them from great heights.
Taking into consideration what was said previously, among the strongest spells we undoubtedly mention Avada Kedavra. This unforgivable curse has a cooldown of 90 seconds, but instantly kills the target, even mini-bosses, and even all cursed opponents once the relevant talent is upgraded. If you don't want to resort to the Dark Arts, Transformation it is a valid substitute: it basically puts an opponent out of action for a long period but once upgraded it transforms the target into an explosive object, inflicting significant damage to nearby allies.
Bombarda, Confringo and Diffindo, are three spells that inflict high damage and are equivalent if recharge times and execution speed are taken into account. Glacius greatly enhances the next spell, while Depulso proves lethal in certain scenarios as previously mentioned. Finally, if you don't mind being a little sneaky, Imperio can easily turn the tables on even the most difficult situations, as he turns an enemy into an ally.
That said, Hogwarts Legacy's combat system rewards the player for hitting multiple spells in a row and in this sense you can give away some combo devastating.
For example, we always like to throw a Glacius before a Diffindo or Bombarda to boost the already high damage of this spell. Likewise, flying an enemy into mid-air with Flipendo or Levioso before a Descendo greatly increases overall damage.
Speaking of mid-air enemies, with a little practice it's possible to bring them to life infinite aerial combos. Start with a nice Levioso, continue with three casts of the basic spell (but no more, otherwise the target will fall to the ground), continue with an Accio to keep the enemy in the air, three more basic spells followed by a Flipendo and continue. In the meantime, Levioso should also be recharged and you can then repeat the cycle virtually infinitely.
Another particularly devastating combination is to use Transform on an enemy and then throw him at his companions with a Depulso or a Cast of Ancient Magic. Then there is the ultimate villain combo with all three curses without forgiveness: start with Imperio to get an enemy on your side and make him curse his companions, give him a hand with a nice Crucio and end everything with an Avada Kedavra which will instantly eliminate the target and all his allies who have been cursed. A combination that would make even you-know-who pale.
