How Instagram's archiving feature works
Instagram is a visually focused app and having a seamless and carefully curated photo grid makes you stand out.
But achieving this feat isn't always easy. Maybe you uploaded a photo to Instagram, then later not sure if it was a good idea. Or maybe you uploaded the perfect photo but after a while (and multiple uploads) it didn't look like a good match for your Instagram grid.
This is common among Instagram users, and understandably you want to present yourself or your profile in the best possible way. Thankfully, Instagram recognizes this and provides a solution in the form of its Archive feature.
Archive allows you to remove photos from the Instagram grid. They will always be on your profile in case you decide to retrieve them in the future and display them again on your grid.
How to archive photos on Instagram
Follow the steps below to start archiving the photos you want to temporarily hide on your Instagram account.
- Launch the Instagram app on your mobile.
- Tap the icon of the Profile in the lower right corner of the screen. This will take you to the grid of your Instagram profile.
- Select the photo you want to hide from your feed.
- Tap the icon of the three-point menu in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Now touch archive , the second option in the pop-up menu . Your photo will no longer appear on your Instagram feed.
How to recover a photo stored on Instagram
Should you change your mind and decide that your archived photo will appear in your feed again, simply follow the steps below:
- from Home page , tap the Profile in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Tap the icon of the three-point menu in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Toccata archive in pop-up menu .
- If you need to change sections, tap Post / stories archive up.
- Select the photo you want to remove from the Archive .
- Tap the icon of the three-point menu in the upper-right corner of the screen, then tap Show on profile . Your photo will appear on the instagram grid .
Should you archive or delete photos on Instagram?
It's not uncommon to change your mind about a photo you've uploaded to Instagram. You can hide a photo if you're not sure if it fits your grid or delete it entirely. You could go for the latter action if a photo no longer represents you well or if it doesn't reflect the current aesthetic of your grid.
But deleting a photo is permanent, so it should probably be your last resort. Archiving is your best bet until you are certain that you no longer want a particular photo to appear on your grid again.
