Fortunately, Luminar AI is closing the gap for users who are comfortable with smartphone editing but may feel out of their abilities when it comes to professional photo editing software like Photoshop.

In this tutorial, we will cover two common types of landscape images and show you how to greatly enhance them using Luminar AI.

Editing for detail enhancement and adding a new sky

A very common problem with landscape photos is the question of where to start. Often, the image looks good when you originally took the photo, but turns out not to be as effective after a more careful review.

In this example, we will offer a solution for images that lack sharpness and may need a new sky to make the image more dramatic.

We will start by choosing an appropriate pattern and effect. Then, we will modify the smallest details which will ultimately transform the image into a stunning landscape. Feel free to download the same image from Unsplash and follow along.

Let's start!

In Photoshop, create a duplicate layer by clicking Ctrl + J. If you're not using Photoshop, skip the first three steps and simply load the image into Luminar AI. You can continue with us in step four.
Convert the layer to a Smart Object by right-clicking the copy of the level 1. Then, select Convert to Smart Object.
Go to Filter > Software Skylum > Luminar AI.
In the menu models, select Easy Landscape Collection. Then, select Long exposure from the menu options.
Select Modification (next to Models) at the top. Then, select Creative from the menu on the right, which is represented by the painter's palette icon.
Select Sky AI. In the drop-down menu, choose Dramatic Sky 1. Then, enter these values for the sliders: Horizon Blending: 20, Horizon Position: 0, Relight Scene: 20, Sky Global: 20. Note that some sliders will already be set to default values, as determined by the effect Long exposure.
Then, open the tab Advanced Settings under Sky AI. Enter these values for the sliders: Close Gaps: 20, Sky Local: 25. Then, move on to Sky Temperature: -50, Sky Exposure: 100.
Select Dramatic, found further down the menu Creative. Enter these values for the sliders: Amount: 40, Local Contrast: 70.
So, choose Essential from the menu. Go to the card AI structure. Enter these scrolling values: Amount: 10, Boost: 20.
Select Color from the menu Essential. Enter these values for the sliders: Saturation: -15, Vibrance: -10.
Select Horizontal from the menu Essential. Enter these values for the sliders: Dehaze: 10, Golden Hour: 10, Foliage Enhancer: 30.
Select Cartoon from the menu Essential. Enter these values for the sliders: Amount: -60, Size: 30.
Finally, we will remove the people and part of the water splashes that have become distorted. You choose Clear from the menu Essential. Use the scroll wheel on your mouse to zoom in on the image. With the mouse, highlight all the people and any distortions of the splashes of water.
When done, click Clear. If you are missing something or the effect is uneven, you can repeat the process until the image is clean.
click on Apply to export the image back to Photoshop. If you are using Luminar AI as a standalone program, there will be options for exporting your image.

Editing a forest scene

Forests are also commonly captured in landscape photography. These images are often taken inside a forest in low light situations.

We used a simple approach to this type of photo. First, we determined where a new light source could be added, in this case a sun. Second, we decided to light up most of the foreground elements that were bathed in shadows.

Of course, there are many ways to approach editing any image. But it helps to approach the process with a predetermined idea of what changes you want to make. Luminar AI makes it easy. Feel free to download the same image from Unsplash and follow along.

Repeat steps one through three as shown above.
In the menu models, select Collection of scenarios. Then, select Pleasing Touch from the menu options.
Select Modification (next to Models) at the top. Then, select Creative from the menu on the right, which is represented by the painter's palette icon.
Select AI atmosphere. Select Fog from the drop-down menu. Enter these values for the cursors: Quantity: 30, Depth: 100, Brightness: 100.
Select Rays di Sun from the menu Creative. click on Place solar center and move the sun to the center of the image using the mouse. Enter these values for the sliders: amount: 20, general appearance: 30, length of the sun's rays: 40, penetration: 50.
Select Sun settings from the menu Creative. Enter these values for the sliders: Radius of the sun: 30, Radius of the sun's glow: 70, Sun flare amount: 70.
Select Radius settings from the menu Creative. Enter 62 for the device di Scroll Number of rays solar.
Select Heat from the menu Creative. Enter these values for the sliders: Solar heat: 45, Sun heat: 50.
So, choose Essential from the menu. You choose Improve AI and enter 70 for the cursor Accent.
Select AI structure from the menu Essential. Enter . for the slider Price.
Select Horizontal from the menu Essential. Enter 30 for the slider Golden hour.
click on Apply to export the image back to Photoshop. If you are using Luminar AI as a standalone program, there will be options for exporting your image.
