A few days after the release of the highly anticipated and multi-postponed title of CD Projekt Red, fans of Cyberpunk 2077 are biting the brake, waiting to get behind the wheel of the amazing Night City car park.
Forget fast travel (and eco-friendly)
Night City, the fictional city in which it is set cyberpunk 2077, smells of asphalt, diesel on the verge of ecological disaster, e burnt tires. Johnny Silverhand, the protagonist, will in fact find himself catapulted into an adrenaline-fueled mix of shoot-outs, high-tech combat and thrilling racing, among the streets of a metropolis where cars live and fight, just like its inhabitants.
Like the hands holding the steering wheel, in fact, even the cars of Cyberpunk 2077 will have the skin furrowed by cyber enhancements, designs inspired by subcultures which represent, and a lot of personality.
Drive around Night City it will therefore not only be a necessity, but also a pleasure for the steering wheel and for the eyes, so much so that it will be impossible not to avoid like any plague fast travel (available thanks to some NCART stations scattered around the map) and hear one tight stomach, when we finally have to get out of the vehicle.
Punk design and Retro soul
CD Projekt Red has got us used to be amazed in front ofvisual impact of his games, and in Cyberpunk 2077 it is no less. The design team, in fact, it risks overshadowing the actual developers, thanks to stylistic choices courageous, mature, and very inspired.
Like the bodies of Night City, unbalanced, asymmetrical, and crossed by cybernetic modifications, even cars hug the asymmetry, giving life to designs that wink at the most classic retro vehicles, but without forgetting your own punk soul.
The hard lines of the bodywork, which are reminiscent of the iconic cars of the 80s how much i armored vehicles, in Chevillon Thrax they mix with a radiator grille that looks like from the designs of a British car manufacturer in the 50s. The single lantern, like a cybernetic eye on the face, it reminds us that in Night City style is not enough, without functionality.
And so like bodies, Cyberpunk vehicles are too terribly sexy and without shame. The neon, chrome and provocative designs turn Night City into a huge one entertainment district, Where its streets are the catwalks in which the real stars of the show parade: cars.
To each his own (style)
The four sub-cultures, or Life Styles, which dominate Night City will give birth to a organic ecosystem, and messy, in which to see a woman in a minimalist suit pass next to a huge fluorescent fur it will look like the most natural thing in the world.
Each sub-culture will in fact have its own aesthetic taste, Its approach to life And its stylistic choices, which will also be reflected in vehicles they drive.
If the members of theEntropism in fact they prefer makeshift vehicles e Japanese-style micro-car, the fanatics of the Neo-Kitsch they will choose instead of supercar which are inspired by the American Hip-Hop scene, and wink at Bugatti and Lamborghinis.
On the streets of Night City we will then see one whiz by Rayfield Caliburn, with trapezoidal grilles, one-way windshields, and lines borrowed from the Lamborghini Huracàn, next to one Thorton Colby, which is so reminiscent of one Subaru Loyale Station Wagon del '94, with just a touch of muscle car
For each pocket, a set of keys
Yes, because in the streets of Night City we will not only see supercars and luxury cars whizzing by, but also the the real stars will be the small cars, which as in any city, will be the host. Imported cars, remodeled cars and makeshift cars, suitable for the pockets ofany inhabitant of Night City, which is not neither the CEO of a corporation, nor a nightlife drug lord.
Cyberpunk 2077's car fleet will then be layered, going from Hypercar, Sports (rally, racing or… combat cars) and Executive, until you get to Economy, Via motorcycles e heavy vehicles.
Like society, then, the streets of Night City will be too variegated and colorful, providing the perfect stage where the numerous will take place races, rallies and pursuits that will test Johnny Silverhand, as promised by CD Projekt Red.
What there is, and what will be (maybe)
At the time of writing, Cyberpunk 2077's fleet counts 29 car that the protagonist will be able to own and drive (and steal). Furthermore, although in the intentions of CD Projekt Red it should have been possible modify and customize your own vehicles, unfortunately this idea was discarded due to lack of time and resources.
Knowing the gaming industry, and the passion for DLC of CDPR (sometimes from the size of real stand-alone games) it is not absurd to think that new vehicles, new races and maybe the possibility of modify vehicles, can be introduced at a later time. Maybe with some event or on the occasion of some celebration.
Until that time, the cars that populate Night City are more than enough to keep any player busy, at least just long enough for go from one main mission to another. What if at that moment you will not feel like shooting or katana shots with some Night City scoundrel, take the time to get behind the wheel, and peacefully scroll through the city traffic, observing the streets of Night City and its inhabitants.
Don't worry if you find yourself stopped at a traffic light, while someone behind you sounds the horn madly. I too will waste hours just looking at the design of the cars.
