I recently bought my first Nokia mobile phone with a touch screen, the Nokia 5800, and being pleasantly impressed, I will share with you my impressions of use, also making some comparisons with other touch screen phones that I have had the pleasure of testing, such as the iPhone 3g, HTC Touch Diamond, Samsung S5600 and a kind of Chinese one. iPhone (Brick-type building, but equipped with TV and dual SIM).
Let's start with the price, I took advantage of an offer in the Mediaworld Online price list, for the European version of the NOKIA 5800 Nokia smartphone €12 plus normal shipping costs.
This is already one of the strong points of this mobile phone, especially taking into account the quality/price ratio, if we compare it with the iPhone 3g (from my fellow blogger UBIK and a big Apple fan) and the HTC Diamond.
As of today, August 25, 2009, the prices found through the price search "Search prices" for the following devices excluding shipping costs are:
Nokia 5800 : 217,80
Iphone 3g : 439,90 €
HTC Touch Diamante : 296,95 €
Samsung S5600 : 167,60 €
Chinese brick iPhone: €105 (on Ebay)
Let's see what the package includes:
- Nokia 5800
- Battery charger.
- Manual in English (never used, the mobile is really intuitive, useful for installing the SIM and memory for the first time).
- 8GB SDHC memory card.
- Cell phone support, useful for watching videos on your cell phone.
- Remote control with buttons to close/answer the call and manage songs in player mode, to which headphones can be connected.
- Headphones.
- Cavo Usb -> miniUsb
- TV output cable
I will show you a complete sheet of the characteristics of the Nokia XpressMusic 5800, and then move on to the comparison and impressions of use.

Now let's move on to my personal and, hopefully, shared impressions of use (precisely why I await your comments)
PERSONAL REVIEW
This mobile phone pleasantly impressed me with the quality of the materials and the complete equipment, to which I later added something, the quality of the touch screen is very good and precise although it is not at the level of the iPhone, but it is superior. to HTC Diamond & co. , the battery of the cell phones I tested allowed very intense but not continuous use (24 hours a day), GPS, phone calls, camera, MP24 player, Internet browsing, a battery life of 3 days, longer than that of the HTC and the iPhone, slightly inferior to the Samsung, and clearly inferior to the Chinese iPhone which has a 1 mAh battery (never seen in any mobile phone), using the mobile phone for simple calls and text messages, you get a battery life of 3500-72 hours. As for the audio sector, if used as a MP90 player it is unbeatable, it has 3 very powerful and clear speakers for a mobile phone, which makes it superior to the other models I tested, same opinion even using excellent quality headphones. Another point in favor of this mobile is the camera, superior to the other tested mobiles, which allows you to create videos in VGA quality at 2*640 with excellent audio and 480 Fps, really impressive, while in the photos I was a little disappointed. , since with the same MegaPixel (30) compared to a Nokia N3,2, the latter takes sharper photos. Another thing that positively surprised me is the GPS of this Smartphone, like the Samsung, which captures the signal very quickly and without problems, the iPhone and the HTC Diamond are a little less. The Nokia 73 has a good screen like Samsung and HTC, but not comparable to the iPhone in terms of sharpness, brightness and touch screen, as well as a size of 5800". The TV out cable is not very useful to me, since the quality reproduced on the screen is really bad. The Symbian operating system is very stable and allows the installation of numerous free programs, although the software that Nokia already supplies is excellent, such as the navigator and Nokia Maps, to which I have added Google Maps and Fring to use Skype and MSN. For common cell phone use such as sending text messages, you must initially get used to the QWERTY keyboard, and acquire a little precision with your fingers, which is easier on the iPhone due to the size of the screen and the quality of the touch screen. Alternatively, the use of the stylus is also convenient, while the stylus seems a bit of poor quality and excessively angular to me, with the risk of ruining the screen in the long run, even if it is very solid .
There are 4 ways to compose SMS:
- Writing (comfortable but slow, you trace the letter with the pick or stylus as if you were writing, and the mobile recognizes it and writes)
- Mini QWERTY keyboard, which occupies approximately 1/3 of the screen, characterized by excessively small keys, making mistakes is easy and annoying in the long run
- QWERTY full screen, the best method, it occupies the entire screen, both with the pick and with the fingers, after having done a little practice it makes everything very simple (see photo below)
- Alphanumeric keyboard, similar to a T9 system for writing, I do not recommend this either.
As a final opinion, I am really satisfied, for what it cost it has everything and works well, also excellent to use at home with Wi-Fi, or outside with flat internet. Excellent quality/price ratio, to which I only needed 3 accessories to complete the package:
- A charger with interchangeable USB connection for car
- A useful male-male audio cable for those who have a car radio with auxiliary input
- Bluetooth headsets
Each cell phone has its strengths and weaknesses, I can only give you my humble opinion:
Nokia 5800: Complete mobile, excellent quality/price ratio, unbeatable in a multimedia environment, large amount of freely installable software, excellent in all fields, from multimedia to real use
iPhone: Display and Touchscreen without equal, unsurpassed, limitations in terms of mms and bluetooth, complete and highly functional mobile phone, camera and discreet audio, very suitable if you use it for browsing, otherwise for what it costs I would not recommend it.
Htc Diamond: Also complete mobile phone, a little expensive for its features, small and improvable screen.
Samsung S5600: Excellent also in terms of price/quality ratio, the only small defect is Samsung's proprietary operating system, which may not have the number of programs of the 3 previous mobile phones, but in general, in terms of the multimedia sector and in general. The quality is really excellent.
Chinese Brick iPhone: Extremely bulky and heavy, menu translated into tacky Spanish, but like a pro, exceptional battery life, minimal cost, analog TV that doesn't look bad, possibility of using 2 SIM cards at the same time and finally excellent as A blunt object to throw at an attacker! :)
Below are some photos that I reduced to 1/3 for optimal viewing, taken with my own Nokia 5800 :
Photo 1 – Taken at night, with a slight light, the subject and our new pet Ringhio from our friend Andrea :)
Photo 2 – Taken late at night, always with a slight light, the subject and the store of a friend of ours, whose entrance we sealed as an innocent joke, We Love You Marsic :D
Photo 3 – Taken as you can see in broad daylight, the theme is Dino Island, fabulous!!!!
This is a video filmed at night, in low light, in confusion so the video will be blurry, but despite everything the result was really excellent, the video is not bad at all for the present lighting conditions, while in the audio there is nothing to say, really excellent, especially if we compare it with other mobile phones that register absurd distortion in the presence of high-decibel sounds. The video quality is 640×352 (called WideScreen High Quality in the menu) which does not correspond to the maximum quality level, which we remember is 640×480 (also known as High TV Quality) and would be the video below.
It should be remembered that these videos uploaded to YouTube lose a minimum of quality, so they do not represent 100% of the real result, but they are very close!
This video was recorded during the day with a maximum quality of 640 x 480:
I remember all the video quality levels, which are 5:
- High TV Quality: 640×480, 30 FPS, AAC Audio – 48 KHz, Mp4 format
- High quality panoramic TV screen: 640×352, 30 FPS, AAC audio – 48 KHz, Mp4 format
- High email quality: 320×240, 30 FPS, AAC Audio – 32 KHz, Mp4 format
- Normal email quality: 320x240, 15 FPS, AAC Audio – 32 KHz, Mp4 format
- Sharing quality: 176×144, 15 FPS, AMR audio – 8 KHz, 3GP format
Finally a comparative photo of the dimensions of the Samsung S5600, Nokia 5800 and Apple Iphone 3G;
I will update the article later with the comparison of the dimensions of the Nokia 5800 with the HTC Diamond and the Chinese iPhone brick, and some videos recorded with the Nokia, sorry for the quality of the last photos taken at night in a bar. and I hope that although you liked the unprofessional review, I hope for comments, insults and complaints to correct and improve this article! :)
As promised, although not of great quality, here are the photos comparing the Htc Touch Diamond, the Nokia 5800 and the Chinese iPhone:
The size of the Chinese iPhone is simply impressive, not in vain does it have a 3500 mAh battery, TV antenna and fake technology... On the other hand, the HTC Diamond is very contained and avant-garde.
