iOS 14, not only TikTok: Linkedin also reads the notes

iOS 14, not only TikTok: Linkedin also reads the notes

The new privacy features of iOS 14 continue to unmask some applications. After TikTok, AccuWeather and AliExpress, too Linkedin was "discovered" to read and copy the data stored in the clipboard for no apparent reason. In practice, the future version of Apple's operating system has introduced a new feature that displays a notification banner to the user to signal that a particular app is copying what is saved to the clipboard.

Linkedin immediately intervened on the matter stating that this is a bug and that the contents of the notes are neither stored nor transmitted to third parties. Erran Berger, the company's VP Engineering, said the problem is with a piece of code that "just checks between the contents of the clipboard and what is typed into a text box." This code string has been removed and a new update will be released on July 14th. It is possible that the fix also affects iOS 13.

As we all know, iOS enjoys the Universal Clipboard which allows an application to read and copy what is saved in the clipboard from one device and paste it on another as long as they have registered the same iCloud account. Thus, the apps in question can even read what is copied to other devices.

We do not exclude that in the next few weeks other applications may also be updated to adapt to the new rules of iOS 14. The future version of Apple's operating system is expected in September, together with the new generation of iPhone 12.
