Ericsson has announced the launch of its fully automated eSIM solution aimed at ensuring a better user experience and supporting telephone operators. The arrival comes from the identification of new use cases based on data obtained from a survey administered to consumers, which reveals how they are ready to go to the new solution and pay for e-SIM services.
The eSIM solution offers the remote provisioning of user profiles and device management, key features that allow communications service providers to manage user profiles more flexibly. Flexibility is an element directly desired by users who - according to the survey conducted in 5 countries - have requested that e-SIMs enable the following features:
- Connected devices, to quickly add other devices to an already active commercial package in a few clicks;
- Try and buy, that is the possibility to try new offers for 3-4 days before the purchase;
- Special travel rates, to use local data pricing for navigation;
- Connection ensured, the ability to use any mobile network to make a call or send a message when the user is not covered by the network;
- Marketing campaign, for timed and targeted commercial offers.
Based on the data collected, Ericsson has estimated revenue growth for telephone operators of around 10-15% for each individual subscriber. The solution offered includes the Secure Entitlement Server (SES) and the Ericsson eSIM manager (GSMA SM-DP + certified) which is used for the onboarding of eSIM devices. As stated on the company's official website, this "provides a fully automated end-to-end device and procedure that manages device discovery, user authorization for eSIM device onboarding, user profile creation and subscription, provisioning management of the eSIM device and network elements, as well as updating the service provider's back office system, if relevant ".
Ericsson promises the service provider the opportunity to launch several interesting services for a wide range of eSIM devices. While users are assured the ability to instantly enable new services on their new device with minimal effort. Among other things, the on-demand creation of user subscription profiles and IMSI is provided as well as customization support for branding and layout of mobile network operators.
The launch was so commented by Lynette Luna, Principal Analyst of GlobalData: “Many operators see eSIM-enabled smartphones as a threat rather than an opportunity. But eSIMs are exactly what managers need in order to break the declining ARPU curve, if the features are implemented and marketed correctly. The eSIM can in fact enable new use cases that can really enhance the customer experience ”.
