dehya is the new 5 star character of Genshin impact coming from Sumeru introduced with version 3.5 of the Hoyoverse action RPG. It is a unique unit of its kind, as it is halfway between an off-field DPS and a tank capable of absorbing direct damage to its teammates and at the same time increasing their resistance to interruptions. In this guide we will give an overview of his skills, strengths and weaknesses, and we will explain what we believe are the better builds, with recommendations on weapons, artifacts, and stats to consider.
Dehya, as we were saying, is a particular character, given that you can opt for various types of builds, depending on whether you want to increase his damage or his peculiar tank skills. Having said that, unfortunately at the moment its position in the Genshin Impact meta is not the best, mainly due to a very limited offensive potential, while the support skills are useful, but not enough to replace the classic healers or supports they generate shields, such as Zhongli, Thoma and Diona, just to name a few. It must be said, however, that new characters and sets of artifacts could arrive in the future with excellent synergies with this unit, in addition to possible direct buffs from Hoyoverse. Furthermore, from version 3.6 Dehya will become a character in the standard banner and therefore over time you could also unlock the bonuses of her constellations, which increase her damage and all-round usefulness.
L'elemental ability of Dehya creates a fiery shrine that lasts 12 seconds (the cooldown is 20 seconds), which has the dual utility of triggering area-of-effect Pyro attacks at intervals and mitigating the damage suffered by all companions within its radius. action, also increasing their resistance to interruptions. If there isn't already a Fiery Shrine on the field, Dehya creates one by activating Wild Flame. If it is already active, the character uses Extended Flame: Dehya absorbs the fiery shrine, then performs a pyro area attack and restores the field to the new position. Keep in mind that Extended Flame can be activated immediately after Wild Flame, but unfortunately it does not extend the maximum duration of the fiery sanctuary, unless you have unlocked the second Constellations bonus.
When an ally within range of the Burning Shrine is hit, part of the damage is absorbed by Dehya (50% with the talent at level 10) who in turn suffers them gradually over 10 seconds. There is a maximum amount of damage the character can mitigate in this way, which is equivalent to 200% of his maximum HP. Dehya's passive talents allow her to take a large amount of hits without going down, which combined with the resistance to interruptions make this mechanic very useful for supporting stationary characters like Ganyu, Yoimiya or Ayato, although it must be said that in many cases a simple barrier can fulfill the same function.
Unfortunately, Dehya's elemental ability is very lacking offensively. When an opponent within the field of the Fire Shrine takes any type of damage, a Pyro-type combined attack area. The problem is that this can only happen once every 2,5 seconds (where the total duration of the ability is 12 seconds without constellation bonuses) and also the damage in general is not particularly high. If you want, you can also use this ability to activate the Germination elemental reaction (Dendro + Hydro → Pyro), but a 4-star character like Thoma from this point of view offers more frequent activations, as well as a decent barrier.
Using the elemental riot Dehya unleashes himself by automatically executing a series of fiery punches for 4 seconds, with the player able to increase the frequency of the strikes by pressing the attack button. It ends with a powerful fiery kick that deals area damage. The skill does not deal little damage overall, but unfortunately it has some significant downsides. The most important one is the high energy cost (70 points), made worse by the fact that Dehya doesn't generate many particles. In practice you will need at least a 160 - 180% Energy Recharge to activate this riot every rotation, as long as there is another Pyro character in the team. Another downside is that hits from this skill are not considered normal attacks, so they don't activate support skills like those of Xingqiu and Yelan, for example.
With regard to the talent priority to develop for Dehya, a lot depends on whether you plan to exploit her more for her elemental ability and thus increase her power and damage mitigation or for her elemental riot. However, it is not worth investing in standard attacks.
Artifacts and statistics
As mentioned at the beginning you can build Dehya in various ways depending on your preferences and consequently the values also change artifact sets and recommended stats. Basically you have three options: invest as much as possible in this character's elemental riot while maximizing the offensive potential; focus on the elemental ability, increasing its damage or the protection offered to teammates; use the fiery shrine to activate the Germination elemental reaction.
In the first case we suggest 4 pieces of the set Emblem of Broken Fate which increases your Energy Recharge by 20% and increases Elemental Blaze damage by percentage based on this stat. The main statistics we suggest are ATK for the "sands" (HP becomes a valid alternative only by unlocking the first bonus of the Constellations), DMG bonus from Pyro for the "chalice" and CRIT damage rate for the "crown". For the secondary ones, the priority is Energy Recharge to reach at least 160 - 180% in total, followed by those related to the CRIT and finally %ATT and %HP.
If, however, your goal is to focus on Dehya's elemental ability you have two options. The first is 4 pieces of Crimson Flame Witch which increases Pyro damage. For primary and secondary statistics you can use the same ones as in the paragraph above. In any case, don't expect particularly high damage. If instead you want to enhance support and damage mitigation skills we suggest 4 pieces Perseverance of the Millelites which increase the character's maximum HP by 20% and grant the team an almost fixed 20% bonus to ATK. In this case you can prioritize offensive stats again or invest as much as possible on %HP, thus increasing Dehya's tanking abilities.
Finally, if you focus on the Germination elemental reaction the choice falls on the 4 pieces of the set Golden dreams or Flower of Paradise Lost. As for the primary and secondary statistics of the artifacts, pump Elemental Mastery as much as possible, since it is the only one that is truly revealing for Germination.
The best weapons for Dehya
As for the best weapons for Dehya among the five-star ones, the choice falls on Lighthouse of the Sea of Rushes, a claymore tailor-made for this character that increases ATK by up to 40% with elemental abilities and taking damage, as well as HP by 32% when playing without shields. The alternatives of the same level are the Howling Pass which greatly increases the ATK stat and the Red Horn Rock Smasher (Itto's weapon).
There's no shortage of great options for claymore 4 stelle. Among all we mention the Greatsword of Favonius, which offers a high Energy Recharge bonus, or the Sword of Akuou and the Sea Sovereign which enhance the elemental riots. The Sacrificial Greatsword isn't bad either, as it allows you to use the elemental ability twice. For teams based on the Sprouting elemental reaction you can opt for Makhaira's Aquamarine, the Glory of the Forest craftable weapon or the new Armored Flower event claymore.
Recommended teams
As it currently stands, Dehya's kit does not make her particularly revealing in any specific meta nor irreplaceable by other five or even four-star rarity characters, both in terms of damage and defensive abilities. In the future, however, her usefulness could increase thanks to the synergies offered by new characters, artifacts or game mechanics, as has happened in other cases in the past. That said, Dehya is an excellent unit to pair with Ganyu, Ayato or other stationary characters to protect them while they use their abilities, within mono Pyro teams or as a main or secondary character to trigger elemental reactions with Dendro cores.
