With the beginning of your experience on Monster Hunter Rise you will immediately have to make a very important choice, which is to understand which weapon you will want to use for the next hours of gameplay. In all there will be 14 different classes at your disposal, each with its strengths, weaknesses and particularities in general.
In this guide, in particular, we will talk about the Long Sword, specifying their various basic moves, combos, silkworm attacks and trading skills, along with some general tips on how to use them.
Furthermore, if the guide is not enough for you and you want the weapon in action, I refer you directly to Edivad video tutorial, one of the contributors from the facebook page La Taverna del Cacciatore:
Basic commands
The historical peculiarity of the Long Sword within the Monster Hunter games is the presence of an indicator called Spirit Gauge.
This bar can be charged by attacking normally and allows, if it is charged enough, to unleash an attack Spirit Blade, useful for increasing weapon damage and unlocking extremely useful moves.
Whenever you manage to hit your target with a Spirit Blade attack, the Longsword will receive an attack boost. It is possible to upgrade the Long Sword up to a maximum of three times and each level corresponds to a different color of the Spirit Gauge: white for the first level, yellow for the second and red for the third.
Unfortunately, the upgrades are not permanent, as too long without redoing the spirit circle will drop the bar until you return to the previous level. You will then have to hit your target with Spirit Blade attacks several times in the battle to keep the weapon at full strength.
Combo
- Basic Combo: X (Cutting Edge) -> X (High Sweep) -> X (Lunge) -> X (Upright)
- Spirit Blade Combo (Requires Spirit Gauge): ZR (Spirit Blade I) -> ZR (Spirit Blade II) -> ZR (Spirit Blade III) -> ZR (Whirling Spirit)
- Retreat Slash Combo (Requires Spirit Gauge): X + A (Retreating Slash) -> ZR (Air Spirit Slash) -> ZR (Spirit Blade III) -> ZR (Whirling Spirit)
- Combo special sheath 1: X (Cutting Edge) -> ZR + B (Special Sheath) -> X (iai Slash) -> ZR (Spirit Blade II)
- Mystic Slash Combo 1 (if successful): X (Cutting Step) -> ZR + A (Mystic Slash) -> ZR (Spinning Spirit)
- Combo special sheath 2: X (Cutting Edge) -> ZR + A (Mystic Slash) -> ZR + B (Special Sheath)
Attacks with basic silk silk
Also the Long Sword can have 2 different Silkweave Attacks from the beginning, both with different cost and use.
Ascending kick
A silkworm attack that can be activated by pressing ZL + X. Use a wire bug to launch into a flying kick which, if successful, is followed by a falling lunge.
If the lunge hits, the Spirit Gauge automatically fills up for a short time. After taking the kick, press ZR for one breaks spirit helmets, which reduces the spirit gauge by one level. It costs a silk insect bar.
Serene pose
A silkworm attack that can be activated with ZL + A. If you receive a hit during the animation, you can immediately counterattack. Using it will cost you two silkworm insect bars and will reduce the spirit gauge by one level.
Exchange skill
As with any category of weapons, the Long Sword will be able to make use of Exchange skill, or interchangeable attacks that you will unlock with specific missions after you have used it enough.
Two of these will replace basic attacks, while one can replace an Attack with silk silk. However, keep in mind that each can only substitute for some specific attacks, modifying the resulting move but keeping the buttons to press to perform it identical.
Drawn Double Slash (replaces Sharp Step)
Drawn Double Slash it is an attack that replaces Sharp Step. It consists of an extraction attack that hits with a vertical and then a horizontal cut. It also allows you to absorb a blow during the attack. While it does more damage than a Sharp Step, there are few attacks that can be chained with this move.
Spirit Reckoning (replaces Whirling Spirit)
Spirit Reckoning it is an attack that replaces Rotating Spirit. Like the latter, it remains a Spirit Blade move, which however will replace the previous Spirit Blade combo with ZR (Spirit Blade I) -> ZR (Dividing Slash) -> ZR (Spirit Reckoning), requiring less input but having animations and window much smaller execution times.
Silk Silk Sakura Rotation (replaces Ascending Kick)
Silkblind Sakura Slash is a silkworm attack that will replace Ascending Kick, always asking for input ZL + X. It consists of a whirlwind attack that hits and cuts the enemy several times with the help of the wire insect. The first hit linked to the move also allows you to increase the Spirit Gauge by one level. After using it, the Silkweave Bug Bar will recharge at medium speed.
