One of the elements that made us reward Mario Tennis Aces in our review, was certainly the layered gameplay and full of complex mechanics that require a good dose of training to be wisely managed. For this reason, in view of the online tournament to be held next July, we have decided to provide you with a small series of tips that will make your climb to success less fraught, allowing you not to be caught unprepared by the opponents you will face in the online matches of Mario Tennis Aces.
Choosing the Right Shot
The first and indispensable piece of advice we feel we can give you to be able to dominate matches in Mario Tennis Aces, is knowing how to quickly recognize which shot to respond to your opponents' shots. If identifying the differences between Top Spin, Slice and Flat Shot only through the trajectory could prove difficult in the first hours of the game, the color trail system introduced by Nintendo will greatly simplify your life allowing you to respond with the correct hit to each opponent's shot.
By following the following scheme, in fact, he will be able to identify what type of shot the opponent will make only by observing the color of the trail. This will allow you to respond with the same type of shot avoiding a marked backlash that could momentarily destabilize your character, slowing down your gameplay and correct repositioning on the field following the exchange:
- Red Trail: Respond with a Slice (B key)
- Blue Trail: Respond with a Top Spin (A key)
- Purple Trail: Respond with a Flat Strike (Tasto Y)
Unfortunately for lobs and muffled shots, there are no suitable answers as they are techniques designed to take advantage of an incorrect opponent's positioning to put him in further difficulty. Our advice, for these specific techniques, is not to abuse them and use them wisely when you see your antagonist in a position too far back from the field (Colpo Morzato) or too close to the dividing net (Lob).
Use the Intense Service
A technique that is still not very widespread, and which requires proper planning to be used at its best, is the Intense Service. Once your Energy Bar is full for at least one third of its total (changing from red to yellow), you can not only use Intense Shots but also this dedicated variant to put the ball on the pitch. Not having the same amount of power as the shot of the same name, Intense Service is not a technique to be ignored or considered less relevant.
His ability to turn the tide of a match by putting in difficulty an opponent who has just consumed his entire energy, will prove in more than one occasion essential to quickly recover points or, simply, start a series of exchanges from a position of advantage. . To perform this technique, simply press R instead of lifting the ball to start the serve and the canonical viewfinder, dedicated to the most powerful shots, will immediately appear to let you choose which portion of the opponent's field to throw the ball.
The Importance of Positioning
It is no secret that one of the golden rules of the tennis world claims that positioning yourself in the center of your court allows for optimal control of the pitch. In Mario Tennis Aces, however, this dogma needs a few small tricks to be exploited in a truly winning way. In fact, constantly chasing a central position, may not always lead to optimal results in terms of control of the pitch, as your opponent could surprise you with unexpectedly effective shots that would risk frustrating your centralization efforts, simply offering him a defensive hole in which to break through.
Our advice, therefore, is to always try to keep yourself in a position that is perfectly midway between your opponent's location and the center of the court. This little trick, in fact, will not only allow you to always be in a position that allows you to intercept almost all the shots of your antagonist but It will also offer you the possibility of covering the entire playing field through Technical Shots, always carrying them out precisely and in the right amount of time.
Familiarity with the Technical Shot
One of the most frequent mistakes that can be made at the beginning of the climb to the Mario Tennis Aces rankings is to consider the Technical Shot as a simple defensive maneuver. This particular technique, in fact, while allowing you to intercept a shot that is apparently too far away, by moving the right stick in the same direction, it offers the great advantage of recharging a generous portion of your Energy Bar. Using the Technical Shot, executing it with the taste of timing with the right timing, will therefore guarantee you a greater number of possibilities to take advantage of Intense, or Special Shots, placing you in a more offensive role and able to destabilize even the most aggressive of opponents.
To obtain the required result, however, it is essential to carry out each Technical Shot with the right timing, in order to avoid consuming a portion of energy, rather than increasing it, and to find yourself momentarily slowed down, creating a very marked gap in your defense of the field. Precisely for this reason we recommend that you first train yourself on the correct positioning of your character (explained in the previous paragraph) before attempting to ring a series of effective Technical Shots.
The fastest way to hone your technique in Mario Tennis Aces is definitely to complete all the detours offered by the Adventure mode. Some will prove to be quite difficult but perfect for improving your tennis skills.
Refine the Blocking Technique
Unlike what happens in the Adventure mode present in Mario Tennis Aces, blocking an Intense, or Special, shot correctly during multiplayer matches is more complex and will require a lot of training. Correctly blocking one of these devastating shots, in fact, requires perfect timing in hitting the ball exactly when it hits your pitch.. A response even minimally late, or early, will result in a broken racket and a loss at the table of the match. Unfortunately, a real winning formula for a perfect block does not exist and our advice is to train as much as possible against the CPU by setting a high difficulty, in such a way as to try to find your personal and effective response to Intense Hits. and Specials and be ready to respond to those of your opponents during online matches.
We also suggest that you always carefully evaluate all the elements of the current game before attempting a block. On many occasions, in fact, giving a point to your opponent, and consequently making him lose a substantial portion of energy, can prove to be a winner to overwhelm him later. when he finds himself without enough energy to be able to respond to your offensive.
Choosing the Right Character
The Roster of Mario Tennis Aces, although varied and constantly expanding through new characters that will be introduced for free in the months to come, does not reveal itself characterized in a complex way. Although there are six types of tennis players, pad in hand, the differences are not excessively marked, preferring the player's technical skills to an unbalance of the Roster based on specific characteristics of the individual characters. Although at present we have been able to note a prevalence of Boo e Rosalina in the choices of our opponents, their peculiarity of giving a greater effect to each Slices performed (characteristic of Technical type tennis players), is only effective at first glance and against opponents who do not yet fully master all the mechanics offered by the gameplay of the title.
Our advice, therefore, is not to dwell on a "famous" character but of try the whole Roster challenging the CPU, understanding which tennis player you are best with and then deepen with it the various more advanced game mechanics.
Considering that in July, the first official Super Mario Aces Tournament will be held, which will allow you to unlock Calamako as a playable character, we hope that this little guide will prove useful to take your first steps into the complex mechanics packaged by the guys from Camelot.
