Petal Search is the new Huawei search tool. Difficult to give a precise definition of the application. It does practically everything: from searching for applications in different stores to news aggregator. One and only place where you can search for everything you want: music, apps, documents, results on the web and much more. In short, a universal search system.
The application is downloadable directly from AppGallery, Huawei's alternative store. It is also available as a widget on smartphones of the Chinese brand. We were able to use it without any problems on both the newer P40 and an older P20. Let's find out how it works and what is possible with Petal Search.
The interface is one of the simplest and most intuitive. As soon as you log into the application, you are in front of the “For you” section in which they come show the news of the day using the popular SQUID app. At the top (and in the second tab) the search bar is available from where we can start any type of search. By simply typing any word, the most relevant results will be shown: emails and messages containing the searched word, contacts, settings and applications already installed.
Petal Search also acts as a search system for applications. As we all know, AppGallery is still being populated. So, despite its rapid growth, it may happen that some of our favorite applications are not yet available on the official Huawei store. By typing the name of the app we want directly in the search bar, we will be shown the alternative solutions. The operation is the same as we have seen with TrovApp which - on HMS-based smartphones - helps us find apps on other stores, such as APK Pure.
It does not end here. Petal Search can be used as a kind of browser. If the results obtained do not satisfy us, we can continue the search directly on the web. To do this, Huawei has chosen Qwant, the French search engine that pays particular attention to the issue of privacy. The European solution, therefore, represents the alternative to Google Search.
Finally, there is the "Personal" section. Here we find the search history, the ability to activate incognito mode, settings and downloads. This last entry is particularly interesting as it shows us the updates available for applications downloaded from alternative histories. Finally, from the settings, we can decide what to search for through Petal Search: apps, contacts, messages, calendar, notepad, email, settings and music.
In conclusion, Petal Search is an advanced search tool which allows us to search for everything we want from a single screen regardless of whether it is inside the smartphone (such as email or contacts) or whether it is outside the vast world of the web (such as apps and news).
Arrived on the market at 799 euros, Huawei P40 is available for purchase on Amazon for less than 550 euros.
