With version 4.0 of Genshin impact Hoyoverse's action RPG welcomed the Fontaine region and the first native characters of this partly European-inspired location. In this guide we will focus on lyney with a complete overview of its characteristics and what are the ideal weapons, artifacts and teams to create better build for this character.
Lyney is a new Pyro-type character who fights with bows. Within the team she basically plays the role of DPS main character and boasts a very unique magician's skill set.
Skill overview and talent priorities
NB: when we refer to the attack statistics we will use the values of the Talents at Lv. 8, a level high enough for an advanced build and which at the same time does not require excessive amounts of resources. Furthermore, in Genshin Impact skill values are expressed as a percentage of the user's ATK, unless another specific attribute is indicated.
Lyney's fighting style revolves around his own charged shot with the bow, which has many characteristics to take into consideration. Specifically, this attack has two levels of charge, the first simply performs an enhanced shot infused with the Pyro element, the second, and much more important, fires a so-called "Scenic Arrow" with 276% scaling and deploys a " Grinning Hair" at the point of impact.
Il Grinning Hat it remains on the field for 4 seconds, provokes surrounding opponents and has HP proportional to Lyney's maximum HP (a value just over 100% at level 8). When destroyed or when its duration expires, the hat performs a "Pyro Blast", dealing massive Pyro damage to a nearby opponent at a massive 339% scaling. There cannot be more than one hat at a time and this is a very important aspect: if Lyney uses the second level charged attack when a hat is already on the field she will create a new one and the old one will explode immediately, which means that from the second charged attack and then the character performs two blows simultaneously with rather high overall damage.
Additionally, if Lyney is above 60% health, when she fires a Scenic Arrow, she loses 20% of her maximum HP and gains a stack of "Scenic Reserve", which are closely linked to the elemental ability of the character which we will talk about shortly. In this way the HP can never drop below 60% and naturally below this threshold you will not get any stacks. The number of stacks is indicated on the screen next to to the character, as in the image above.
That's not all, because at 6 second intervals the Scenic Arrows also generate a "Spectral sting", which causes minor damage but has the peculiarity of having a Pneuma polarity, an element linked to a new mechanic of the Fontaine region which we will not talk about here also to avoid possible spoilers. Suffice it to say that in general the spines are small amounts of extra damage, which certainly doesn't hurt.
L'elemental ability "Amazing Lights" upon activation, consume all Scenic Reserve stacks to deal damage with fireworks in a cone area in front of Lyney at 267% scaling. Each stack used increases the skill's damage by 85% and causes the character to recover 20% of their maximum HP. Furthermore, if Lyney's elemental ability hits a Grinning Hat it will explode immediately, dealing damage equal to that of the Fireworks Blast but in this case in an area of effect, with the possibility of hitting multiple enemies. To maximize damage, therefore, the elemental ability should only be used when a Grinning Hat is on the field and when the character is in possession of as many stacks of Scenic Arrow as possible, which vary based on the rotation of your team.
Activating the Elemental Riot, "Pageant of Miracles", Lyney takes on the form of "Grinning Cat" for 3 seconds and can move across the field at great speed. When she is in cat form and approaches opponents she unleashes flames that deal 264% damage. Once the effect ends, Lyney abandons this form and sets off fireworks, dealing high AoE damage of 662%, and summons a Grinning Hat while gaining a stack of Scenic Reserve. The cat form can be interrupted even before the end of its duration by pressing the button assigned to the elemental ability. It's a pretty useful mechanic when facing a single enemy like a boss, as in her cat form Lyney can only deal one instance of damage per target.
Moving on to passive skills, "Risky Number" Restores 3 health points if a Scenic Arrow consumes Lyney's HP and increases the damage of the summoned Grinning Hat by 80% of the character's ATK.
Much more important "Final Applause". This passive increases the overall damage Lyney deals to enemies under the effect of the Pyro element by a base 60%, plus an additional 20% for each character of the same element in the party (excluding Lyney) up to a maximum of 100 %.
We're basically talking about double damage under optimal conditions, a truly high bonus which necessarily defines the best formations for this character. In fact, the ideal would be to pair Lyney with two other Pyro-element characters to maximize the effectiveness of this passive. On the other hand, Final Applause doesn't work very well in all those teams that use elemental reactions that remove the Pyro status from opponents, such as Vaporization and Fusion.
With regard to the Lyney Talents priority, we suggest you pump up the standard attacks as much as possible, given that the charged shots represent the core of his kit, followed equally by skill and elemental rejoicing.
The best Artifacts for Lyney
As for the best Artifact sets for Lyney, the choice is quite simple, given that the new set "Hunter of the Maréchaussée" introduced with version 4.0 of Genshin Impact, it is hands down a clearly superior option to all the others. The two-piece bonus increases normal and charged attacks by 15%, while the four-piece bonus increases CRIT Rate by 12% for 5 seconds (up to a maximum of 36%) whenever the user's HP increases or decreases , a requirement that fits perfectly with this character's kit.
If you haven't gotten any good pieces from this set yet, the best alternatives are "Firewalker" (+35% damage against enemies affected by Pyro), "Wanderer's Fellowship" (+35% damage for charged attacks) and Vermillion Afterlife (ATK +18% and additional +8% ATK each time the character loses health after an Elemental Blast).
Le statistics of the artifacts to focus on for Lyney are the classic ones for a DPS, i.e. ATK and a high CRIT rate and DMG from CRIT. Keep in mind that once you reach lv. 90 Lyney can count on a base CRIT Rate of 24,2% to which the values of the equipped weapon and the "Hunter of the Maréchaussée" set can be added, so you probably won't have to invest too much in this attribute. Energy Recharge can be useful, but large quantities are not needed: the ideal value to activate the elemental riot at each rotation is between 120% and 140%, based on how many Pyro characters you have in your team and other factors, such as weapons and sets . Elemental Mastery on the other hand is generally useless, since Lyney is not a character designed for reactions that exploit this stat. In summary, we suggest:
- Sabbie: ATT%
- Chalice: Pyro damage bonus
- Crown: DAN da CRIT
- Secondary Stats: Energy Recharge (up to 120 - 140%) > Rate / DMG from CRIT > ATK%
The best weapons for Lyney
Moving on to weapons, the choice between those 5 stars obviously falls on "First Great Magic", the bow tailor-made for this character. In addition to offering a bonus to CRIT DMG of 66,15% and +16% to charge attack damage, this weapon increases the user's ATK by 16%/32%/48% depending on how many Pyro characters you have in squad (Lyney included) and movement SPD of 4%/7%/10% for each different element unit. The best alternatives within the 5-star bows are "Acqua Simulacra", "Pole Star", "Arch of Amos" and "Celestial Harp".
We find some interesting and certainly more accessible alternatives among the four-star bows. Among these are the two weapons from the Battle Pass. The new arrived "Heir of the Burning Sun" increases CRIT Rate by 18,38% and activates the Burning Heart status on an enemy, increasing the Charged Attack damage they take by 28% for 10 seconds. The "Emerald Hunting Bow" instead offers a bonus to the CRIT Rate of 27,56% and activates a cyclone every 14 seconds that deals damage in a small area in proportion to the ATK statistic.
We also find some very valid options among the bows that you can create at blacksmiths, such as the "Song of Silence" which was introduced with version 4.0 of Genshin Impact. Its effect increases the user's ATK by 41,35% and damage by 16% for eight seconds when receiving healing, which is often done through Lyney's own abilities or the support abilities of characters like Bennet. The "Crescent Prototype" is also not bad at all, offering the same bonus to ATK and furthermore its effect increases movement speed by 10% and ATK by 36% when a charged attack hits a weak point of a enemy. However, keep in mind that not all opponents in Genshin Impact have one.
Recommended teams for Lyney
As we saw previously, Lyney is at his best when deployed in one formation mainly composed of Pyro element characters, in order to maximize the damage bonus of his passive talent "Final Applause", while teams based on elemental reactions such as Vaporization and Fusion should be avoided, since they remove the Pyro status from targets, thus deactivating the bonus of this talent.
The ideal would be to support him with at least two other characters of this element, with the best candidates represented by Bennet e Xiangling. The former provides healing and buffs to the attack, while the latter has excellent off-field abilities to further increase the team's overall damage. In reality, Dehya and Yanfei (provided you have unlocked the fourth Constellations bonus and with a build designed to maximize the effectiveness of its barrier) are also valid options, as they offer protection from damage and enemy interruptions, both useful aspects for keep Lyney's HP high and be able to safely execute her charged attacks.
For the remaining slot we suggest you Anemo characters such as Kazuha, Sucrose or even Lynette equipped with the Emerald Huntress set, thus further increasing the team's elemental damage. Or with characters capable of applying barriers, such as Zhongli and Kirara. The Geo-type archon offers the best barriers, but Kirara thanks to the Dendro activates the Burn elemental reaction, which does not eliminate the Pyro status and inflicts additional damage over time, not a lot to be honest but it is better than nothing.
Thoma and Baizhu are options worth considering but less relevant. In fact, the former can strengthen its barrier and inflict damage only if the active character uses non-charged basic attacks, while the latter can offer barriers with very limited capacity and would replace Bennet, the best support to pair with Lyney.
Finally, nothing prevents you from using only two Pyro characters, a shielder and an Anemo character: you will sacrifice 20% of the "Final Applause" talent bonus but the shield protection and increased elemental damage from the Emerald Huntress set more than make up for it.
