cyno is one of the five star characters introduced in Genshin impact with the Sumeru region and lends itself perfectly to the role of main DPS of Electro element. In this guide we will give an overview of his skills, strengths and weaknesses, and we will explain what we believe are the better builds, with recommendations on weapons, artifacts, and stats to consider.
Cyno is one of those characters whose description of active or passive talents should be carefully read, otherwise the risk of using him inefficiently is quite high. In fact, he is a character who scales well with the Attack statistic but also obtains important bonuses based on Elemental Mastery, which among other things is a parameter to also take into consideration for the Accentuation and Hyperbloom elemental reactions. Additionally, his kit revolves around his Elemental Blaze, which completely transforms his basic attacks and elemental ability, with the latter tied to a timing-based mechanic.
Skill Overview and Talent Priorities
As previously mentioned Cyno's kit is all about his elemental riot. Once activated, Cyno enters the "Sworn Forerunner" state (yes the name is not the best, but so be it) and all his standard attacks become rapid slashes enhanced and infused with the Electro element. Not only that, Elemental Mastery increases by 100 points and the character becomes resistant to interruptions due to opponent attacks, becoming an unstoppable fury (life points permitting). This basic ability lasts 10 seconds, which extends to a full 18 seconds using his elemental ability. This means that Cyno is at his best when he is on the field for long periods of time and therefore requires teammates with long-lasting off-field skills.
L'elemental ability It has two different forms. It's basically a forward lunge attack with the spear that deals modest Electro-type damage and generates three elemental particles (useful for replenishing energy if necessary) with a cooldown of 7,5 seconds. In the "Sworn Forerunner" state, this attack instead becomes a ground slam that causes greater damage in a small radius of action and its cooldown is lowered to just 3 seconds. At this point the essential passive talent "Judgment of the Falling Feather" comes into play. When Cyno is in "Sworn Forerunner" mode, a giant eye-shaped symbol will appear on the screen at regular intervals (as in the image above): activating the elemental ability when this happens significantly increases the damage of the shot and generates three bolts that cause added damage equal to ATK. Learning the right timing is therefore essential to make the most of this character's offensive potential.
Finally, we mention the passive talent "Authority of the Nine Bows" which increases the damage of standard attacks and Cyno's elemental ability in "Sworn Forerunner" mode based on the statistic Elemental Mastery, which therefore plays a role of a certain importance.
With regard to the talent development priority of Cyno, the ideal is to focus on the elemental riot first, followed by the elemental ability. However, it is not necessary to develop standard attacks, as once the "Sworn Forerunner" status is activated, the scaling of basic and charged shots is based on the level of the elemental riot.
Artifacts and statistics
As for the best artifacts to use with Cyno, you have two valid options available: 4 pieces of Thundering Fury or Golden Dreams. The first set increases Electro damage by 15% and that of elemental reactions (in particular we have +20% for Accentuation). Also very important is the bonus that reduces the recharge time by 1 second for each triggered reaction, which allows you to use Cyno's elemental ability at least a couple more times during the "Sworn Forerunner" state, significantly increasing the damage inflicted by the character.
Golden dreams instead it basically increases Elemental Mastery by 80 points, to which is added a further bonus of 50 points for each character of a different element from Cyno and a +14% to ATK for each character of the same element.
Which of the two is better? It depends on the type of elemental reaction you want to focus on. In a team based on Accentuation (Electro + Dendro > Electro) the choice falls on Thundering Fury since this combination scales less on Elemental Mastery. On the contrary, this stat becomes more important with Hyperbloom (Hydro + Dendro > Electro) and therefore in this case Golden Dreams becomes the better option.
There is also a third set to take into consideration, viz Last Act of the Gladiator, which lends itself well to any type of training, but is slightly inferior to the other two, although not by much. It must be said, however, that you may already have pieces in your inventory with excellent secondary statistics and in that case you might as well exploit them rather than having to farm another set from scratch.
With regard to main statistics of the artifacts, for the "crown" bet on rate of / damage from CRIT and Bonus DMG from Electro for the "chalice". As far as the "sands of time" go, both ATK and Elemental Mastery are solid options, the latter slightly better, especially on a Hyperbloom-based team.
Moving on to secondary statistics, the ideal amount of Energy Recharge to use Cyno's elemental riot at each rotation is between 120 and 140% if there is at least one other Electro character in the team. This value is lowered if you use the Thundering Fury set, since you will be able to use the elemental ability more often and therefore generate more particles. For the rest, the priority, like any self-respecting DPS, is CRIT rate and CRIT damage, followed by Elemental Mastery and ATK%.
The best weapons for Cyno
As for the ideal weapons for Cyno, the best among those 5 stars is the Staff of Sands, a spear tailor-made for this character, which increases the ATK of Elemental Mastery by 52%, with additional bonuses based on this stat for each successful elemental skill. Alternatively, the Primordial Lance is also excellent as it increases the ATK for a short period for each successful hit.
Among the 4-star rarity weapons, we also mention the Duel Spear which offers a bonus to the character's ATK and DEF, which further increases when facing a single enemy, such as a boss. Alternatively, the free Missiva del Vento spear (if you unlocked it in the appropriate event) and the Lancia di Rupenera are also valid alternatives.
Then there is a very valid low budget option, namely the White Plume, a 3-star rarity spear which, once improved to its maximum, increases Cyno's standard attacks by 48%, even those linked to the elemental riot, and also has a CRIT rate as a secondary statistic.
Better teams for Cyno
Considering the importance of Elemental Mastery and the new Dendro-based reactions, Cyno is at his best on teams based on Accentuation and Hyperflowering. In the first case you will therefore need another Electro character and a choice of one or two Dendro units, depending on whether you also want to include an Anemo character to boost Cyno's Electro damage or Zhongli to create shields. With Hyperbloom, however, you will have to include a Hydro unit such as Kokomi, Yelan or Xingqiu in the equation.
Below we offer some examples, clearly to be adapted to your tastes and availability of characters.
