The moment you set foot on the first planet in No Man's Sky Next can be unsettling. We do not know who we are, where we are and why we are distant from our spaceship. Our detection systems are not working and the temptation to go around looking for answers is great, but first of all it is good to take a deep breath and not go too far on foot.
The ship cannot function without two key technologies: i Launch Thrusters that allow the shuttle to take off and land, and the Impulse motor, essential for gaining speed and jumping between systems. Both require different materials to get back into operation. Pure ferrite x 50 and 1 dihydrogen gel for propellers, 1 hermetic seal and 1 metal plate for the impulse motor.
Depending on the planet's atmospheric conditions it may be more or less difficult to survive, but the basic elements needed to solve this first problem should be present in abundance and not too far from where we first became aware. The game offers a tutorial to follow that will make you create one element at a time, but we want to offer you a guide that will not only help you follow the game's advice in the best possible way, but that also delves into other aspects. For more experienced players we recommend the guide on how to take the first steps after repairing the shuttle.
Our first planet
As soon as you wake up, the first information on the planet with which we come into contact are very important and give us a first idea of the danger we may face.
He bioma influences flora, fauna and determines overall environmental risks.
The climate influences the intensity of environmental risk and the presence of exotic elements.
The behavior of the sentries indicates the degree of activation of the Sentinels towards the player's infractions.
Flora indicates the quantity and density of the flora present on the planet.
Fauna indicates the quantity and density of fauna present on the planet.
In the case of our example planet Saga N18 we were faced with toxic environmental hazards and one radiation exposure which weakened our protection from environmental hazards. The flora was in great quantity while the presence of animals was discreet. Unlike the tutorial proposed by the game we have chosen a different order both for the creation of the tools and for the repair of the elements, this one for avoid being immediately removed from the impact point of your ship space without having first practiced some very useful tools for survival in general.

Analytical Scanner and Viewer
The unfriendly climate immediately put us in difficult conditions, the first step was to immediately proceed with the commissioning of the Scanner so as to be able to search for the essential resources present in the area and in the meantime throw an eye in search of a cave where you can protect yourself. 75 units of Ferrite Powder are required to repair the Scanner. Ferrite Powder is a mineral present in abundance on the planets: it is extractable from rocks, or from anything small to medium in size that can resemble a rock. For example, the larger rock formations may require an advanced mining system, so for the moment it is good to focus on the smaller rocks you see as well, they will be enough for our purpose.

To extract Ferrite Dust, just point the Multi-Tool Mining Laser and press R2 on PS4, left mouse button or RT on Xbox One to fire. The Ferrite will be accumulated in the inventory, we just need to access the Multi-Tool section and select repair. We are now ready to perform a terrain scan pressing L3, C or LS. Some will have appeared red, blue and yellow colored rhombus icons which indicate the essential elements for survival: Oxygen (Carbon and Condensed Carbon may also have appeared), Dihydrogen (or you may see Deuterium) and Sodium.
Oxygen serves to recharge our vital systems, while sodium serves to protect against environmental hazards. If these elements are present around you, take them immediately: the dihydrogen will appear in the form of blue crystals and will also be indicated by the letter H, oxygen is indicated by the formula O2 and found in nature represented by a red plant, sodium is instead a yellow plant indicated by the formula Na. Take everything you see around you and use Oxygen and Sodium to recharge your systems.
After surviving the first storms thanks to sodium and oxygen, the game will inform you that your spaceship's signal has been detected. Now you can go to the highlighted point of interest and continue with the tutorial, first though we recommend that you install the Analytical Viewer which allows you not only to identify other points of interest but gives you the possibility to mark a desired point. It often happens that by moving away or moving we lose sight of the target, so it will be easier to keep it in sight.
A Carbon Nanotube will be needed to build the Analytical Viewer. Carbon, like ferrite powder, is found in abundance. Point the Mining Laser at some plant and that's it. Now select an empty slot in your inventory (Options on PS4, Tab on PC) and select create object, choose the Nanotube. Open the Multi-Tool menu item, choose a slot and install the newly crafted Viewer. With L2, F, LT you can have an overview of the points of interest, including your spacecraft. As you approach, always scan the area for oxygen, sodium and dihydrogen.
Repair the spaceship
If in the previous steps we have already accumulated enough dihydrogen, we can now create 1 quantity of dihydrogen gel and use it to repair part of the launch thrusters, the same goes for the Ferrite powder that we need to build a metal plate for the impulse motor. If we don't have the right quantities, just point the Mining Laser again at the stones containing ferrite and scan the ground for blue crystals.
The first phase of materials research and repair has been completed. The second phase will begin after boarding the shuttle and reviewing the diagnostic report: it is a bit more cumbersome but it is based on the same principles you are learning about. Let's start with the simplest and most immediate part that does not require large movements.
If you like No Man's Sky you might be interested in Astroneer, one of the best early access games on Steam.
Let's start first with the Pure Ferrite, obtained by refining the Ferrite Powder that you have now learned to collect and that you probably already have available in your inventory. Making this transformation requires installing the Portable Refiner - UP arrow on the d-pad - a very important tool introduced with Next. You will again need a metal plate and 30 units of oxygen to create the tool.
Once installed on the ground, perhaps near your spacecraft, you will need some carbon to get it up and running and at least 50 units of ferrite powder to be refined. You can wait for completion and immediately use pure Ferrite to repair the Thrusters - you can also exit the screen and leave the instrument running, it is able to function autonomously once loaded. Before leaving the planet remember to collect the refiner to take it with you.
We left the Hermetic Seal mission for last because it requires you to step away from the shuttle and interact with certain tools in a progressive way. If you don't see the quest, get on board the ship and consult the diagnostic report, you will be asked to find navigation data from the emergency beacon. Locate the emergency beacon in the debris near your ship, it will have a rounded appearance similar to a "sayan ship". Interact and get information on navigation data.
The time has come to create a signal repeater. Once again, we will need a plate of metal and carbon nanotubes that we have already learned to create earlier. Place it as you did with the repeater - UP arrow on the d-pad -, iInteract and choose to scan distress frequencies. The new direction will be set on the navigator at the top and will be recognizable by its red hexagonal shape. Before you venture out there, enter the shuttle and reload your shields, then point towards the structure.
Always remember to scan the terrain for essentials and use the analytical viewer to keep the landmarks in mind. Once you reach the structure, enter the container and interact with the terminal called the holographic archive to obtain the Hermetic Seal. Feel free to rummage around and then return to the ship for the final repair. If you have problems use the analytical viewer and look for the white icon with the symbol of a spaceship inside.
Now nothing holds you to the ground anymore, set off in space to unexplored destinations! Let us know in the comments about the strange planets you encountered during your journey with No Man's Sky Next, available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
