Anita Joseph and Michele Paselli, product manager of Facebook, have just announced that the social will verify identity people who hide behind pages that often create content that then becomes viral. The action, as a deductible, aims to reduce the amount of popular accounts they share fake news.
The contents shared by those who refuse to carry out this simple verification procedure - or in the event that the identity does not match the profile on Facebook - will be penalized and their diffusion will be limited.
This novelty will affect pages with "inauthentic behaviors", so all those accounts whose posts become often viral. This seems like a good solution to reduce the misinformation and push the owners of the pages to share quality content. When a Facebook profile is deemed "suspicious", the user will no longer be able to share posts on their pages, at least until the identity is verified.
The others too social networks are currently engaged in dealing with the fake news that continues to circulate on the net: Instagram recently added fact checking e WhatsApp is taking other measures.
