Here we go again. Facebook said around 5.000 developers were able to access data from users considered inactive. According to the guidelines of the popular social network, apps should no longer have access to users' information after they have not used the service for more than 90 days. A measure introduced in 2018, following the Cambridge Analytica scandal which strongly undermined confidence in Mark Zuckerberg's company.
Recently, however, thousands of apps have continued to receive data from people who had previously given their consent, but who were inactive. Facebook did not disclose how long the phenomenon occurred, much less how many users have been affected and which data precisely have been shared.
However, the company stated that the information shared would only be that authorized by the user at the time an app was accessed via Facebook. The problem - declares the colossus of Menlo Park - it was fixed immediately. Currently, therefore, there should no longer be any leaks of information.
In short, a new flaw in the Facebook system. A system that - as already mentioned - has lost user trust after Cambridge Analytica and other privacy and security issues.
