Facebook has decided to stop and block the sharing of news within the social network for users located in Australia.
This could not only cause inconvenience to private individuals who use it, it severely limits access to important portals that deal with health care, for example, but also those linked in some way to the Australian Government.
This ban was imposed because rather concrete news arrived from Australia that a new law would have forced the giants of the Web - including Facebook - to pay for the content of the publishers it uses as news, insights, editorials, etc.
The same rule obviously also affected Google. The largest search engine company, however, has already reached an agreement with the Australian executive, signing publishing contracts with newspapers and agencies located in the area. An operation that highlights, however, the fact that the largest group - NewsCorp - had the largest slice.
Scott MorrisonPrime Minister of Australia categorized Facebook's action as "arrogant and disappointing" and added that these companies think they are big and influential and don't care about complying with regulations. Moreover, he continues, there has been no warning, the restrictions have been activated promptly and confirm that the immense power of these giants of the Web is contained in one click.
The solution, as Google did, is to recognize the work of publishers and make arrangements to enhance their content. Besides NewsCorp, another deal has been closed with the Australian media group Nine Entertainment.
In short, Facebook as well as other social networks have entered by force in the lives of many and we almost do not realize when we use it. The move to interrupt such a service, which has now entered so deeply into everyday life, certainly brings many inconveniences.
